Job Description

Position Summary

The Natural Resources department is now looking for an energetic knowledgeable creative dedicated motivating encouraging and enthusiastic individual to fill a fulltime tenure track position. The successful candidate that can work effectively with students colleagues staff and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity.

This position is for a Career and Technical Education teaching position focused on getting students jobs upon graduation and working closely with industry partners to tailor curriculum to job needs.

Green River College takes great pride in being a leader in the Forestry and Natural Resources fields in the tristate area of Washington Oregon and Idaho offering 5 AAS degrees and two concentrations Resource Sampling and Operations in the BAS Program.

ABOUT THE COLLEGE

Green River Colleges student body is made up of approximately 41 Academic Transfer students 34 Professional Technical 15 Adult Basic Education 3 Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses including the main campus in Auburn with satellite campuses in Kent downtown Auburn and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college) those seeking retraining for the workforce international students students learning English as a second language and Continuing Education students. Green Rivers service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse comprising African Americans African immigrants Asian Americans Asians Latinx Native Americans Pacific Islanders and Middle Eastern Americans among other communities.

Position Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of courses within the following degree paths: forest management GIS parks and recreation wildland firefighting water quality and forestry operations.
  • Teach various classes such as Forest Mensuration Forest Navigation Forest Protection Natural Resources Business Wildlife Management Forest Law and Policy Silviculture Fire Forest Appraisal Road and Trail and GIS courses as necessary
  • Design classes to assist with maintenance of campus owned and DNR leased forest lands through hazard tree identification and removal trail maintenance planting research plot continuation fire abatement invasive species removal and wildlife habitat creation and seedling release.
  • Develop relationships with regional employers with the dual goal of ensuring a high rate of employment for our graduates continuously adapting and improving the model of evaluating curricula to meet industry standards for the multiple industries students are employed in postgraduation.
  • Coordinate with Natural Resource industry partners and landowners for offsite projects and course work.
  • Revise class schedules and review course and program offerings on a quarterly basis or as required.
  • Participate and contribute to other college division and professional activities such as committee work and professional development in communication with NATRS department and goals therein.
  • Explain the Natural Resource associate and bachelors degrees to prospective students. Advise current students on a quarterly basis to help maintain individual student program goals. Successfully link students to funding sources to maintain or improve completion rates.
  • Participate in team meetings overnight trips and other events
  • Share program administrative team duties to manage Natural Resources Program

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in forestry or closely related field with 23 or more years applied fieldbased forest management experience within industry OR An associate in applied sciences with Forestry focus and minimum of 35 more years applied fieldbased forest management experience within industry
  • Managerial or supervisory experience
  • Able to troubleshoot equipment problems in the field
  • Proficient in the implementation of forest practices rules and regulations and compliance with an understanding of the application and enforcement of HCP requirements.
  • Proficient in GIS software and able to assist students in entry level GIS and data management.
  • Ability to use data collection devices in field environments and to transfer data into useable formats for analysis.
  • Excellent communication presentation teamwork and networking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build constructive professional working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance cooperation and mutual regard
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Demonstrated successful experience working with people of diverse racial ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds as well as those with disabilities.
  • Work in a complex and dynamic environment where success is often the result of open communication respect cooperation and collaboration.
  • Ability to assess and grade student work with a strong emphasis in improving student performance.
  • A valid drivers license and have a minimum of 2 years of off road 4x4 driving experience on forest and logging roads. This position requires driving as an essential function.
  • Dedication to closing the education gap for underrepresented groups in natural resource education and employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters degree in forestry or related field.
  • Teaching and/or training experience at the community college level or in the field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Operators WSDA Pesticide Applicators License within the first year of employment.
  • Agency certified in chainsaw use.
  • A fire line rating qualified to teach Fire Fighter 2 (FF2 classes (SRB or above).
  • Experience working with Tribal Entities.
  • Experience with practicing inclusive leadership and fostering an inclusive culture on a team.
  • Maintain and make general repairs on instructional equipment such as Relaskops recoil tapes flow meters small engines chain saws ATVs and generators as needed. Monitor all forestry instructional supplies and the fleet of vehicles which includes 3 15 passenger vans 1 F250 crew cab pickup and 1 cargo trailer.
  • Knowledge and experience in grant writing and reporting.

Supplemental Information

This is a fulltime tenuretrack position beginning fall 2025 continuing with annual ninemonth contracts. The salary will be determined according to the candidates educational background teaching experience and applicable work experience.
