What we do:

The Sr. Intellectual Property (IP) attorney is responsible for leading projects and initiatives with broad scope and high impact. As a recognized specialist in IP lawwhether from experience with IP litigation patent counseling/prosecution and/or technology transactionsthe role works collaboratively within the organization to define oversee and complete assignments that further the IP goals and objectives of the business. The position embraces groundbreaking technology and supports active research and development and licensing programs. The Sr. IP Counsel partners closely with members of other departments and handles a variety of matters as an IP generalist including portfolio management invention capture patent clearances dispute resolution negotiations and M&A due diligence support. This role reports directly to the General Counsel.

What you can do:

  • Provide strategic direction on the growth of patent and trademark portfolios
  • Lead all aspects of patent portfolio development
  • Work to secure freedomtooperate for future product and technology roadmaps and develop response strategies where required
  • Counsel on licenses collaboration agreements and other thirdparty transactions impacting the disposition of IP rights
  • Lead investigations into encroachments on Supernals IP rights and counsel on potential enforcement actions and/or licensing activities
  • Counsel on evolving developments in global IP law recommending policy/process changes as needed
  • Provide guidance and training to internal partners on a full range of IP topics
  • Ability to fly up to 50 domestically and internationally
  • Other duties as assigned

What you can contribute:

  • Law degree (J.D. required and admission to the State Bar of California (or ability to practice as a Registered InHouse Counsel in California)
  • Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering field or Computer Science Mathematics or Physics from an accredited university or college required
  • Minimum of six 6 years experience in IP practice at a major law firm and/or as an inhouse counsel at a technology company with a minimum of three 3 years of law firm experience preferred
  • Experience working collaboratively with diverse teams to develop solutions for complicated IP challenges while balancing priorities from multiple stakeholders
  • Hardworking IP professional with significant expertise investigating facts interviewing witnesses developing infringement / invalidity contentions taking depositions conducting postgrant proceedings drafting patent applications and/or counseling clients
  • Experience with negotiating and documenting IP transactions licensing and/or dispute settlements or with performing due diligence in technology transactions
  • Strong ability to negotiate effectively with internal and external partners
  • Demonstrated thought leadership organizational skills attention to detail and keen business judgment with a dedicated focus on personal ethics integrity and accountability
  • A great teammate who enjoys interacting with people and working on group projects
  • Ability to distill and articulate legal concepts into concise and plain English that business partners can both understand and readily act upon
  • Outstanding executive level written and verbal communicator with ability to work seamlessly across the levels of a broad and diverse organization

Base pay offered may vary depending on skills experience jobrelated knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for a bonus as part of total compensation.

The pay range for this position is:

$225000 $245000 USD
