Campus Police Lieutenant is assigned to oversee the daily operations of the campus police department as well as assist in leading the department ensuring the safety and security of students faculty staff and campus visitors. This position requires strong leadership excellent communication skills and the ability to handle emergency situations effectively.

Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise patrol activities both on foot and in vehicles to maintain a visible and effective security presence on campus.
- Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for campus police officers ensuring that they are wellprepared to handle a wide range of situations.
- Lead and coordinate the response to emergency situations including criminal incidents natural disasters and other campus crises ensuring the safety and security of all individuals on campus.
- Oversee the investigation of crimes and incidents on campus ensuring thorough documentation and adherence to legal and procedural requirements.
- Foster a community policing approach by building strong relationships with students faculty staff and other stakeholders and by addressing safety and security concerns proactively.
- Assist in the development and implementation of department policies and procedures ensuring they align with best practices and legal standards.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of incidents including the preparation of detailed reports for review by senior leadership.
- Work closely with other university departments local law enforcement agencies and emergency services to coordinate security efforts and share information as needed.
- Assist in managing the departments budget including the allocation of resources for equipment training and personnel needs.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws regulations and accreditation standards including Clery Act requirements.
- Represent the campus police department at university events meetings and in interactions with the broader community.
Education
- Bachelors degree in criminal justice Law Enforcement or a related field is required. A masters degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 57 years of progressive law enforcement experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role preferably in a university or campus environment.
- Must possess and maintain Virginia DCJS Law Enforcement Certification.
- Must be physically fit able to lift 50 pounds and able to walk run squat and bend as required by the job. Must be able to work in all weather conditions as well as nights and weekends.
- Mustpossess a Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Law Enforcement Certification.
