Job Description

TRUCK & TRANSPORT SERVICE MECHANICTECHNICIAN
Campbellton Regional Community N.B.


Job status: Permanent fulltime position.
Annual salary:As per collective agreement.

DESCRIPTION

The Campbellton Regional Community is looking for an individual demonstrating initiative reliability and the necessary qualifications for the TRUCK & TRANSPORTService Technician position.

This is skilled mechanical work at the journeyperson level in the maintenance diagnosis service and repair of diesel/gasolinepowered automotive vehicles light trucks heavy equipment and construction trucks.


TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Service repair adjust test and overhaul various pieces of equipment including but not limited to trucks heavy equipment halfton trucks pumps generators and all other Cityowned diesel and gasolinepowered equipment attachments parts components or systems.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose faults and malfunctions.
  • Provide technical assistance in diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment to mechanic helpers and other mechanics.
  • Monitor quality control for work performed ensuring standards have been met.
  • Fabricate modify and install special equipment or replacement parts using mills lathes welders torch sets metal cutting saws etc.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and adjustments on fluid levels hoses belts brakes tires and clutches; change filters and oil; lubricate vehicles and motordriven equipment.
  • Repair transmissions carburetors differentials brakes starters electrical and hydraulic systems and all parts of construction and automotive equipment.
  • Overhaul and test generators electric motors and related auxiliary equipment.
  • Rebuild both diesel and gasoline engines and perform motor tuneups.
  • Dismantle reassemble and calibrate diesel fuel injection pumps.
  • Operate special equipment to test motors for horsepower output.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that work meets manufacturer specifications and legislated regulations.
  • Road test vehicles.
  • Make emergency field repairs.
  • Listen to operator complaints.
  • Research and order mechanical parts in conjunction with the Fleet Coordinator.
  • Perform basic welding work.
  • Wash equipment before repairs if necessary.
  • Contain costs by using warranty evaluating service and part options.
  • Write service reports.
  • Assist in training coworkers in mechanical repair techniques.
  • Keep tools equipment and work area clean organized and in good working condition.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current industry best practices.
  • Perform any other physically demanding and manual tasks related to Fleet that need to be done.
  • Perform any other departmentalrelated tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor.


Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Possess certification as a journeyperson in New Brunswick in the heavy equipment service technician occupation.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods materials equipment tools and standard practices of repairing gasoline and diesel motor vehicles and engines commonly used in municipal services.
  • Knowledge of safety issues in using tools equipment and supplies to repair motorized vehicles and equipment.
  • Skills in the use of a variety of hand tools.
  • Skills in the use of welding equipment.
  • Skills in the use of mechanized tools jacks and hoists.
  • Skills in the use of a variety of diagnostic testing and tuning equipment.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Have a valid class 3E drivers license (with air brake endorsement).
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Have written comprehension (ability to read and understand information manuals and schematics).
  • Have completed a criminal background verification.
  • Have completed a drivers abstract verification.
  • Maintain mandatory jobrelated certifications.

  • Some outdoor work occasionally all types of weather conditions.
  • Work of physical nature (move heavy objects work in cramped and awkward positions).
  • Occasional travel for training purposes.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Availability for overtime work is required including evenings and weekends.
