Assistant Copyright Random House

Founded in 1925 Random House is the proud publishing house of the worlds most acclaimed storytellers thought leaders and innovators. We are currently seeking an Assistant to support the Random House Copyright Department. Reporting to the Senior Administrator Copyrights the Assistant is responsible for processing copyright registration applications approving copyright pages securing permission clearances interpreting contracts maintaining book files and assists department with other duties as requested.

Responsibilities include:

  • Analysis of thirdparty text usage within the Companys publications and if necessary obtains and/or assists with permission clearances.
  • Applies for copyright registrations and corresponds with the Copyright Office located in Washington D.C. on matters relating to copyright registrations.
  • Checks copyright notices and acknowledgements in the Companys publications (prior to publication) for conformity with the terms of the author contract and thirdparty permission agreements.
  • Scans and files copyright registration certificates.
  • Maintains personal and/or departmental files.
  • Performs detailed research as necessary.
  • Works closely with other departments within the Company
  • Updates the Company database with information about newly published titles as well as amending existing entries as necessary
  • Develops effective systems to ensure an efficient office environment and timely work flow.
  • Works closely with Director to create and implement departmental policies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills
  • A selfstarter with the ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • PC proficiency
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented and able to prioritize workload & handle tight deadlines
  • Familiarity with SAP is a plus
  • Prior publishing experience preferably in copyright a plus but not required
