Duties and Responsibilities
(NOTE: **denotes Essential Functions)

  1. **Under the general supervision of the Project Coordinator assist in identifying eligible Leeward Community College Native Hawaiian students developing retention strategies and implementing bridge programs for Ke Ala Anuu a Title III cooperative grant between Leeward Community College and UH West Oahu.
  2. **Provide direct ongoing and comprehensive assistance to prospective Native Hawaiian students in STEMrelated fields in order to increase their persistence graduation and transfer rates to UH West Oahu.
  3. **Coordinate with program members and various campus entities at Leeward Community College that share a commitment to fostering student success with a particular focus on Native Hawaiian students to ensure that program participants receive continuous and appropriate support through a Hawaiian Culture Based Education (HCBE) framework.
  4. **Increase Leeward Community Colleges presence within the colleges serving area and to community organizations by developing culturally appropriate messages (e.g. inperson presentations websites and social media) that help prospective Native Hawaiian students and their families set college and career goals.
  5. **Develop and implement activities that lay a strong foundation for career exploration cultural enrichment and financial literacy for program participants.
  6. **Collaborate with external partners (HIDOE and other educational and state organizations) to provide seamless guidance mentorship and advising support to program participants.
  7. **Develop and monitor an internetbased networking site for students.
  8. **Adhere to project timelines project objectives and performance measures related to grant goals.
  9. **Remain current on Title III and U.S. Department of Education policies and grant terms and conditions to ensure that the project operates in full compliance throughout the period of federal support.
  10. Evening weekend and offcampus assignments may arise periodically.
  11. Other Duties as Assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field with coursework in Ethnic Studies Cultural/Indigenous Studies Hawaiian Studies Hawaiian Language or HawaiianPacific Studies and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for providing educational services or assistance to students; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Functional knowledge of principles practices and techniques in educational or cultural programs demonstrated by knowledge understanding and ability to apply concepts terminology.
  3. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles theories federal and state laws rules regulations and systems associated with educational or cultural programs.
  4. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the educational or cultural programs.
  5. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team members and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  8. Demonstrated ability to assess and evaluate student needs and design and deliver a responsive program or service.
  9. Ability to administer and coordinate programs.
  10. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds especially those from Indigenous communities.

Desirable Qualifications
  1. Extensive knowledge of community secondary or postsecondary educational institutions.
  2. Possession of a degree in a STEM or STEM related field and/or significant work experience in a STEM field.
  3. Demonstrated experience working in a Hawaiian Culture Based Education (HCBE) framework.
  4. Skilled in working with diverse student populations that include atrisk socioeconomically disadvantaged underrepresented veteran and/or nontraditional students.
  5. Demonstrated experience with spreadsheets databases presentation applications and/or social media.
  6. Commitment to knowledge of and/or experience with the mission and purpose of the University of Hawaii to position the university as a leading indigenous serving higher education institution.
