Job Description

THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY OF $19.00 PER HOUR.

The Administration for Childrens Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages communitybased supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice ACS oversees detention placement and programs for youth in the community.

ACS Division of Preventive Services (DPS) oversees the delivery and monitoring of preventive services for children and families in their community through our contracted providers. DPS aims to reduce the gap between poor infant/child/adolescent developmental and adult outcomes by promoting child and parent wellbeing strengthening the ability of parents and guardians to keep their children safe and reducing the risk of repeat maltreatment neglect and placements/replacements into foster care. DPS is looking for a motivated and detailoriented Research & Innovation Undergraduate Intern to join our Research & Innovation (R&I) team.

As a Research & Innovation Undergraduate Intern you will support our R&I team in daytoday operations and contribute to longterm projects aimed at strengthening prevention services for children families and communities. Reporting to an R&I Analyst this internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to research activities in a government setting including data gathering and analysis literature reviews interviews humancentered design approaches policy analysis and crossdivisional feedback sessions.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct literature reviews on topics comprising of evidencebased and evidenceinformed models and the use of peer support in behavioral health and child welfare including detailed analysis of implementation and impact studies

Participate in the design and implementation of staff and/or family surveys to gather key data on program operations and practices

Support findings with quantitative and qualitative data analysis

Summarize findings orally and in writing to DPS leadership

Provide administrative support to the R&I team as needed


Learning Outcomes:

Gain comprehensive knowledge of how research is applied in a government setting

Develop skills in conducting literature reviews data analysis and sharing finding to inform decisions

Enhance abilities in collaborating across teams towards desired outcomes


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Section 424A of the New York Social Services Law requires an authorized agency to inquire whether a candidate for employment with childcaring responsibilities has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report.

Qualifications :

As of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June August each year.
