Job Description

The Graduate School of Social Work (GSSW) is a vibrant community of scholars and teachers committed to having a diverse faculty and student body. Position Summary

The Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development (ADRFD) is a critical member of GSSWs leadership team and is an asset to GSSW in fulfilling our mission for research excellence and faculty scholarly and professional development. This role provides leadership in efforts to continue to improve the overall quality of our research infrastructure faculty and center/institute supports and appointed faculty mentorship.

This 12month appointment is effective for three years.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee the overall research efforts of appointed faculty. The Associate Dean provides support to faculty and centers/institutes regarding research projects and ongoing grant and contractrelated research activities. This will include partnering with the Associate Dean for Doctoral Education to support doctoral student research pursuits as necessary. This role includes engaging in individual consultation the implementing groupbased trainings/workshops/meetings and creating opportunities for connection among and across faculty research expertise and interests.
  • Lead a faculty development and mentorship program which includes onboarding training networking supporting and leveraging additional resources for faculty success. In this capacity the Associate Dean will organize resources to maximize the chosen scholarly path of each faculty member and in particular our tenure track assistant professors.
  • Provide leadership to promote funded faculty research at the local state federal and international levels and advocate for public and private research investments in partnership with other academic units at DU other universities and community agencies as well as the DU and the GSSW Advancement Office.
  • Support the Dean and marketing and communications staff in tracking and showcasing faculty research and impact.
  • Work with GSSWs Associate Dean for Operations the Director of Budget and Planning the Director of Research Administration and members of the GSSW Department of Research Administration to develop and maintain systems that support faculty preaward submission and postaward management.
  • Meet regularly with all GSSW Institutes and Center Directors to support their success and sustainability ensuring their integration within the school.
  • Chair the Research Committee and allocate internal funds as available to support student and faculty development through GSSW established processes.
  • Serve as the main GSSW research contact for DU liaising regarding compliance or regulatory issues connected to human subject research and/or grants and contracts and attending SPARC meetings.
  • Actively participate in the various national social work research associations and opportunities for associate deans of research with the Society for Social Work and Research.
  • Serve on the Executive Advisory Council of the Dean and advise schoolwide efforts and initiatives related to research.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in mentoring early career and new faculty.
  • Significant experience in conducting research and scholarship projects.
  • Experience acquiring funding to support research.
  • Academic qualifications at the rank of tenured associate professor or professor in the Professorial Series at Graduate School of Social Work

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to use a computer for an extended period of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus

Work Schedule

Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m.

While the Universitys administrative offices are open Monday Friday 8:00 am 4:30 pm faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught service commitments and research agendas. The Universitys academic calendars are posted on theregistrars website(the law school is on a semester system and has a differentacademic calendar.

Salary Grade Number

The salary grade for the position is UC.

Compensation

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
