The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second largest municipal health system in the nation. Through academic affiliations with the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) the University of Southern California (USC) and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Sciences (CDU) DHS hospitals are training sites for physicians completing their Graduate Medical Education in nearly every medical specialty and subspecialty. In addition to its direct clinical services DHS also runs the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency and the Countys 911 emergency response system as well as Housing for Health and the Office of Diversion and Reentry each with a critical role in connecting vulnerable populations including those released from correctional and institutional settings to supportive housing.
MISSION:
To advance the health of our patients and our communities by providing extraordinary care.
Supervises Ambulance Dispatchers and related personnel who are involved in arranging emergency and scheduled transportation for patients to and from County and nonCounty hospitals and institutions.
Prepares daily work schedule of Ambulance Dispatchers.
Recommends purchase of new equipment or modification of existing equipment and orders supplies.
Operates radio equipment to maintain communication with ambulance and EMS Agency personnel.
Performs and corrects data entry prepares various reports and utilizes computer equipment.
Maintains records of patient transportation requests.
In the event of a major emergency or disaster participates as a member of the Departmental Operations Center as needed.
Performs duties of Ambulance Dispatcher on an emergency relief basis.
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:
Option I:
One 1 year of experience at the level of Ambulance Dispatcher dispatching ambulances to and from a large number of locations throughout Los Angeles County and surrounding counties. Experience at the level of Ambulance Dispatcher is defined as:Dispatches ambulances vans and other vehicles to transport patients to and from County and nonCounty hospitals and institutions.
Option II:
Two 2 years of experience as an Ambulance Medical Technician.
To qualify under Option II applicants must have County status as an Ambulance Medical Technicianas evidenced by holding or having held such payroll title for the required time.
LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out jobrelated essential functions.
Physical Class II Light:This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10pound limit and some bending stooping or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Credit will be given to applicants who possess the following desirable qualifications:
Experience working with Computer Aided Dispatch software.
Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certificate*.
Any additional experience in excess of the Selection Requirements.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of an evaluation of training experience and desirable qualifications based on application information and supplemental questionnaire weighted at 100.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70 or above on the examination in order to be added to the eligible register.
