Department Summary

The Geography Department is an instructional department within the College of Arts and Sciences that supports significant research activities in various types of geographic study including climate change cartography development studies environmental history environmental risk ethnoterritorial conflict fluvial geomorphology GIScience landscape ecology international political economy political ecology remote sensing and wildfire. The Department of Geography is a vibrant community of faculty postdoctoral scholars graduate students and undergraduate majors.

Position Summary

The Postdoctoral Scholar for Geography will support the University in the field of urban geography. Areas of interest may include studies of urban environments spatial analysis of urban processes or urban political ecology. The scholar will be mentored by a faculty member within the Geography Department to further their research in their field of expertise along with development of a mentorship plan. In addition to furthering their research agenda the scholar will teach four inperson classes (one graduate level three undergraduate level) within their area of expertise. The scholar will also provide a public presentation on their research during their time at the University of Oregon.

Minimum Requirements

Ph.D. in geography or related field (required at the time of appointment).

Professional Competencies

Evidence of independent scholarly research in an area of urban geography.
Ability to work effectively with faculty staff and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
Interest in informal consultation with students in geography and elsewhere at UO with an interest in urban studies.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience publishing in highquality peerreviewed journals.
Experience in (or potential for) teaching in urban geography.
