IMMEDIATE VACANICES:
Permanent FullTime
Provides social casework and related services to juveniles exhibiting a wide range of psychosocial problems; performs a variety of juvenile counseling evaluation and allied rehabilitation services; provides information counsel advice and assistance to youths and their families; refers juveniles needing special assistance and their families to the appropriate agencies and services; and performs other related duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
These classes are distinguished by their responsibility for providing comprehensive juvenile counseling evaluation and followup services to potential juvenile delinquents and to coordinate the Departments activities with other public and private agencies providing services to the youths of Maui County.
Grade Level Standards:
Grade III: This is the fully trained and experienced Juvenile Counselor who independently provides the full range of continuing juvenile counseling services for all cases referred to the department without the benefit of technical supervisory consultation. A Juvenile Counselor at this level is responsible to plan coordinate and conduct a comprehensive program of juvenile counseling and followup services. Work at this level involves continuing responsibility for developing and maintaining public understanding sound working relationships and coordination of services with a wide range of residents in the community such as local lawyers physicians and public or private agencies. May also supervise lower level Juvenile counselors.

Conducts interviews to secure information concerning the personal history and behavior pattern of potential delinquents; analyzes and diagnoses individual problems; formulates policy guidelines for dealing with juveniles; aids juveniles in the improvement of personal adjustment social conditions and environmental factors; coordinates departmental activities with other private and public services and agencies concerned with juvenile problems; attends conferences and staff meetings for the purpose of discussing individual cases and/or for cooperative planning of juvenile counseling services; establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with the family court schools welfare and other community agencies; provides guidance and assistance to schools youth organizations etc. in the promotion of youth activities; collects and compiles pertinent information concerning juvenile problems and case studies; prepares correspondence dictates and prepares case records and other documents; may represent agency in testifying before family court.
Training and Experience: 1 A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree in social work sociology psychology or a related field and for:

The above examination is being given on an opencompetitive basis to establish an eligible list which shall be effective for not more than one year unless extended by the Director of Personnel Services.

PreEmployment/PostOffer Drug Screening Test: All applicants who will enter a safety sensitive position or certain designated categories that the Personnel Services Director has established or who are required by law to be drug tested must pass a preemployment/postoffer drug screening test as a condition of employment. There is no retesting or reevaluation process. Cost for the drug screening test shall be borne by the County of Maui.
