EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Parttime position that works 20 hours per week during the school year
PRIMARY DUTY: This position is a health professional that manages the comprehensive school health program in the school community and advocates for health education wellness and safe environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Coordinate and maintain health records for all children in Horace Mann Leet Center and the Infant & Toddler Center
2. Coordinate health screenings
3. Attend to students who are ill injured or require immediate health services and communicate with parents
4. Maintain medical records and documents of services provided
5. Administer medication as needed per physicians orders and parent requests
6. Develop a list of special needs medical concerns and allergies to be shared with the Director teachers and staff
7. Implement and monitor students compliance with state immunization law and submit state reports
8. Maintain professional and ethical codes of conduct (confidentiality)
9. Coordinate CPR First Aid training and inservices for other health related concerns for staff
10. Work with classroom teachers health educators and parents to provide health instruction
11. Assist with health teaching and the planning of health curriculum
12. Seek continuing education to stay current in the school nursing field
13. Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: LPN Certification
Certification/License: LPN license; CPR certification
Experience: One to two years of nursing experience
Skills: Ability to work with children of ages one to sixth grade
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work in a school environment with children ages one to sixth grade
EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Knowledge of all health screening tools and basic clinical tools
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Demands consistent with clinical experience/duties
