About the Positions

  • Position 1: This role is an integral part of our engineering team leading and assisting with multiple programs to provide solutions and enforcement across all of unincorporated King County. As an Engineer II this position is a team member assisting in implementing programmatic work while providing limited oversight and direction to other members of the team. Programmatic assistance includes the Residential and Regional Facility Programs Construction Inspection Complaint investigation and may include WLRD property/asset inspections. Additional tasks include field visits which may include technical assistance to landowners private and public. Therefore it will require well developed communication skills in the delivery of customer service. They will manage and implement small construction or maintenance projects oversee contractors provide technical assistance to the public and ensure compliance with King County code related to drainage and surface water management. This position requires the successful applicant to have the skills and knowledge to independently identify and develop drainage maintenance solutions and identify potential improvement projects to address a wide variety of stormwater and surface water related problems. This position requires solo field work yearround in inclement weather and in aquatic environments.

  • Position 2: This role acts as a lead to the stormwater inspector group. The successful candidate will provide coordination support related to scheduling and training of inspection staff provides review and quality control of maintenance correction letters supports the national pollution discharge elimination system (NPDES) enforcement program related to private water quality and flow control facilities and supports inspection team through research of easements special use permits technical information reports and other documents that support technical and access at facilities.

About the Team

The Water and Land Resources Division (WLRD) is a diverse multidisciplinary organization committed to protecting restoring and managing King Countys water and land resources. Our work is grounded in the best available science driven by innovation and strengthened through collaboration with community partners.

Within WLRD the Stormwater Services (SWS) Section leads efforts to manage stormwater runoff and surface water ensuring public safety improving water quality restoring aquatic habitats protecting properties and meeting county state and federal requirements.

Were currently hiring for two 2 exciting opportunities:

  • Position 1: Asset Management Unit (AMU) Join a highperforming team of engineers and program managers dedicated to maintaining King Countys stormwater infrastructure. AMU ensures assets meet established maintenance standards while staying compliant with local and federal permits including the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).

  • Position 2: Engineering Response and Support Unit (ERSU) This dynamic team handles NPDESrelated inspections the Agricultural Drainage Program Neighborhood Drainage Program SWM Fee Evaluation Program and the Drainage Complaint Program. They also provide essential support services across the section.

  • Inspection CoordinationCoordination of inspection assignments and scheduling to ensure annual inspections are completed on time. Assist with tracking and scheduling of training for inspection staff.

  • Review and Quality control of inspection comments on public maintenance correction letters.

  • Enforcement Support Support inspection staff supervisor with private facility enforcement

  • Inspector Research Support Look up easement information Technical Information Reports Special Use Permits etc.

It Would Be Nice if You Also Bring:

  • EngineerinTraining (EIT) or Licensed Washington State professional civil engineering (P.E. or licensed in another state with the ability to obtain Washington State license through reciprocity.

  • Related professional training.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the King County Surface Water Design Manual or equivalent jurisdictional/regional stormwater design manuals.

  • Experience enforcing regulations.

  • Knowledge and experience using GIS programs with a preference for ArcGIS Pro.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software: Outlook Teams SharePoint Word Excel PowerPoint.

  • Working knowledge of the principles practices and methods of topographic survey.

  • Application of the concepts and practices of Standard Work and Continuous Improvement.
