Job Description

Description of Work



This position is a part of the Staff Development and Training section within Juvenile Justice. This position is located at Central Office in Raleigh NC. The Staff Development Coordinator position is responsible for:

  • the direct supervision of an administrative support team as well as the planning coordination implementation and delivery of new training programs and initiatives
  • ensuring statutorily required mandates and researchbased training curricula are reflected within training activities aligning with juvenile justice policies and procedures
  • writing editing and developing lesson plans and training modules for existing and new inservice training initiatives
  • leading curriculum revision processes for the Divisions InService and Basic Training School Programs in accordance with rules and guidelines set forth by the North Carolina Criminal Justic Education and Training Standards Commision Department and the Division
  • serving as a liaison working collaboratively with Section Directors and subject matter experts/professionals to identify curriculum needs and priorities
  • researching juvenile justice trends and topics and broadening the scope of curricular resources
  • assisting with course schedules for Juvenile Justice personnel in accordance with rules regulations and guidelines set forth by the Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission Department and the Division

  • supporting the work of the Juvenile Justice Training Committee and the Annual Training Review Commitee

Work is performed independently with direction from the Director of Staff Development and Training and in collaboration with section management.


The selected applicant MUST obtain the following credentials within 6 months from the date of hire: General Instructor Certification and CPR and First Aid (American Heart Association) Certification.
Job duties for this position require driving a state vehicle. A valid drivers license must be obtained by date of hire.

Work Schedule:
This is a fulltime position 40 hours a week. MondayFriday. Some overnight travel is required based on training needs throughout the state. A state vehicle will be provided for travel.

To qualify for this position applicants must demonstrate ALL of the following KSAs:

Management Preferences:
  • General Instructor Certification and/or CPR and First Aid (American Heart Association) Certification
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting policies and legislation for the successful development of training curricula
  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing skills to troubleshoot and problemsolve a range of complex issues concerning adult learners.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Masters degree in a human service related field such as Sociology Psychology Education or Health Education; or a degree providing background in organizational analysis and management development from an appropriately accredited institution with two years of experience in a progressive training role which includes some administrative/coordinative duties in staff development with two years being in the work area assigned or a related program area

OR

Bachelors degree in a human service related field such as Sociology Psychology Education or Health Education; or a degree providing background in organizational analysis and management development from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in a progressive training role which includes some administrative/coordinative duties in staff development with two years being in the work area assigned or a related program area

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience
