IMMEDIATE VACANICES:
Department of Human Concerns Temporary FullTime
As an advanced trainee receives increasingly complex cases while continuing to advance toward becoming independent workers; engages in community outreach and resource database development and maintenance ; and performs other related duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
Aging and Disability Services Specialist II positions are typical of two general types:
Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree which included a minimum of twelve 12 credit hours in courses such as aging disabilities human services psychology social work social welfare sociology counseling criminal justice or other behavioral sciences and one 1 year of progressively responsible professional work experience which involved case management and/or support planning in the area of social services health or education.
License Requirement: Possession of a valid motor vehicles drivers license (equivalent to State of Hawaii Type 3.
Knowledge of: the principles and practices of behavioral sciences aging and disability; general research evaluation interviewing methods and techniques; report and letter writing; casework methods and techniques such as assessment and diagnosis used to evaluate and provide treatment for people who need services; the mission goals pertinent laws rules regulations policies and procedures of the Office on Aging; and community resources available to consumer groups.
Ability to: read understand interpret and apply laws rules and regulations pertaining to the Office on Aging programs; collect analyze evaluate information; prepare written reports correspondence and other official documents; establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse populations and members of interdisciplinary teams.

Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

TEMPORARY POSITIONS:Employees appointed to temporary positions may also gain membership in the civil service upon satisfactory completion of an initial probation period of at least six months. Once you become a member of the civil service you become eligible to apply for promotion and transfer opportunities to permanent as well as other temporary positions.
EXAMINATIONS ARE ADMINISTERED IN THE COUNTY OF MAUl ONLY
The above examination is being given on an opencompetitive basis to establish an eligible list which shall be effective for not more than one year unless extended by the Director of Personnel Services.

PreEmployment/PostOffer Drug Screening Test: All applicants who will enter a safety sensitive position or certain designated categories that the Personnel Services Director has established or who are required by law to be drug tested must pass a preemployment/postoffer drug screening test as a condition of employment. There is no retesting or reevaluation process. Cost for the drug screening test shall be borne by the County of Maui.
