Position Summary

Under the general direction of The SEPAL: Science Education Partnership and Assessment Laboratory Principal Investigator the SEPAL Program & Assessment Coordinator will develop and manage SEPAL programs and research efforts. The responsibilities include but are not limited to: designing and implementing SEPAL programs analyzing and reporting results of SEPAL programs writing grant proposals and manuscripts for science education research coordinating professional development events such as the 3day Evidencebased Scientific Teaching Summer Institutes and grant writing workshops generating annual progress reports for funding agencies managing the operations of the SEPAL Resource Center and leading program administrative and financial procedures with the university.

Position Information

Program Development and Management

Oversee the programs of SEPAL: Science Education Partnership and Assessment Laboratory.

  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator to design and implement SEPAL program events and activities.
  • Codevelop policies and procedures related to SEPALs programs and research efforts.
  • Coordinate sensitive information pertaining to SEPAL and use sound judgement to address situations.
  • Work with diverse populations of students and faculty to build and evaluate programs that promote inclusive and effective teaching in biology and science more generally.
  • Serve as a project liaison by making contact and maintaining communication with subcontracted groups facilitate management of data records and conveying of records for project assessment.
  • Monitor and analyze administrative and fiscal reports of SEPAL research activities and programs.
  • Manage complex administrative procedures related with SFSU grants office human resources and financial departments.

Manage the SEPAL Resource Center and Student Assistants

  • Mange the SEPAL Resource center including recruiting new users training student assistants monitoring resources and coordinating campuswide and offcampus usage of the SEPAL Resource Center.
  • Oversee 23 Student Assistants that provide daily support of the SEPAL Resource Center (i.e. checking in/out materials data entry answering phones answering emails fulfilling orders).Coordinate weekly meetings with student assistants to discuss and evaluate progress.
  • Maintain functioning database of materials and project websites (e.g. DART website Scientist Spotlight Initiative website) that are part of the SEPAL Resource Center.

Community Outreach and Grant Development

  • Work closely on all aspects of grantfunded program development implementation research design assessment and analyses and dissemination and publication of results
  • Collaborate in grant writing process and grant proposal submissions.
  • Build and arrange community partner alliances for program and research collaborations.
  • Effectively communicate with diverse contacts within and outside of the university.
  • Plan organize and cofacilitate meetings with internal and external stakeholders.

Program Evaluation and Assessment

  • Design and collect pre & postassessments for SEPAL programs/events.
  • Prepare analyses of program results and develop recommendations for future plans or actions.
  • Prepare data presentations in graphic pictorial tabular or written forms for SEPAL research projects
  • Communicate findings through manuscripts reports posters and presentations in professional association meetings
  • Create maintain archive and update detailoriented program records and files
  • Manage scan archive and analyze a variety of program data and documents to ensure data is preserved electronically.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles practices and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelors degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study analysis and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies procedures practices or programs.

  • Expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with a broad administrative impact and implications. Ability to make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to train others on new skills and procedures and provide lead work direction.
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply extensive expertise to complex programs and/or administrative specialties including pertinent laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in and advanced knowledge of the principles problems and methods of public and business administration and operational and fiscal management.
  • Expertise in administrative survey techniques operations and systems analysis statistical and research methods and the ability to interpret and evaluate results to develop sound conclusions and recommend new or revised policies.
  • Ability to understand problems from a broad interactive perspective and discern applicable underlying principles to conceive of and develop strategic solutions.
  • Ability to work with representatives from public and private entities and handle potentially sensitive situations. Demonstrated consultative skills in working with internal and external constituent groups.
  • Ability to effectively present ideas and concepts in written or presentation format and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A doctorate degree and/or advanced degree in science or a related field.
  • Prior experience working with university administration local communities and/or science students.
  • Experience working with grantfunded programs and their designated reporting systems.
  • Proficiency in financial and budget management
  • Supervisory experience working with individuals from a diversity of backgrounds
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently collaboratively and on multiple teams simultaneously
  • Budget management university processes and procedures and familiarity with science education programs research and grantfunded efforts.
  • Commitment to promoting inclusion equity and fairness in all aspects of the work.
  • Three years of progressively responsible administrative or professional experience which is applicable to the responsibilities of science education program administration and coordination
  • Experience with grant writing peerreview panels and submission.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports. Ability to analyze situations accurately and to adopt to effective course of action.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and be able to handle a variety of responsibilities.
  • Ability to assist in preparation of questionnaires gathering and analyzing research data and in compiling data for reports and summaries in tabular graphic and pictorial form.
