Job Description

Description

The Dean Sciences and Nursing works collaboratively with faculty and staff to administer the mathematics sciences public safety and nursing and health science areas of the College. The position develops instructional goals that support the Colleges mission and strategic goals. The Dean is responsible for the instructional activities of the nursing programs and the administration of specific ongoing annual and termbyterm functions for the Sciences and Nursing Division. The position reports to the Vice President Academic Affairs.

Examples of Duties

1. Plans organizes administers and evaluates the Colleges Associate in Science certificate and advanced technical diploma instructional programs in Nursing EMS Medical Assisting Criminal Justice and Public Safety.
2. Works collaboratively with the other academic deans to plan organize administer and evaluate the Colleges Associate of Arts program.
3. Provides leadership for instructional and administrative staff of the various departments which comprise the Sciences and Nursing Division.
4. Serves as the nurse administrator for the Colleges nursing degrees.
5. Reviews and supervises the hiring of instructional professional and career staff of these divisions and participates in faculty and staff evaluations teaching observations and faculty mentoring and coaching.
6. Responsible for seeking alternative sources of funding for the College; including but not limited to grant submissions.
7. Responsible for course scheduling faculty assignments and instructional delivery for courses in the Sciences and Nursing Division.
8. Responsible for the credit and noncredit course scheduling faculty assignments and instructional delivery for courses in the Sciences and Nursing Division.
9. Coordinates with appropriate staff for instructional personnel action recommendations.
10. Oversees staff development to support personnel professional growth.
11. Works with staff to identify areas of opportunity for the development of noncredit courses and certificates in workforce development lifelong learning and personal enrichment.
12. Oversees curriculum development including those supporting the development of fouryear degree programs credit certificates and embedded industry certifications within the curriculum.
13. Develops annual budget recommendations according to established procedures consistent with goals and objectives. Allocates monitors and controls assigned program budgets and expenditures.
14. Collaborates with Student Services Distance Learning and Information Technology areas to ensure that information systems are appropriate for academic purposes and responsive to student and instructional needs.
15. Establishes longterm academic and programrelated goals and strategies and establishes community and business partnerships.
16. Develops and utilizes effective assessment measures related to program learning outcomes competency assessments and unit plans. Coordinates the completion of program reviews and other assessments for Departmental academic programs.
17. Supports and communicates the Colleges mission and maintains professional affiliation and involvement in local state and regional organizations. Keeps up to date with career and technical instructional services issues in community colleges.
18. Participates and assists with efforts activities and responsibilities pertaining to the Sciences and Nursing Division with regards to accreditation and reaffirmation.
19. Coordinates efforts to obtain and maintain programspecific accreditation (i.e. ACEN).
20. Coordinates and maintains appropriate academic credentials and instructional standards required for accreditation and policy and procedure requirements of local state and federal agencies.
21. Reviews and recommends changes to College policy and procedures in the instructional area.
22. Participates as a member of College Committees as assigned.
23. Serves as the College representative with the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce.
24. Required to attend Graduation/Commencement ceremonies.
25. Attends training and State and Federal conferences as assigned.
26. Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge Abilities and Skills:

  • Knowledge of administrative and organizational skills required for effective management of personnel programs budgeting and reporting activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and outstanding verbal and written communication skills in relation to faculty staff students and the public.
  • Knowledge in developing and implementing career and technical education programs and services to meet community needs.
  • Excellent decisionmaking conflict resolution collaboration and facilitation skills.
  • Interest or demonstrated experience in the role of emerging technology in the instructional area.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards and institutional strategic planning.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with regional accrediting bodies (SACSCOC and HLC).
  • Knowledge of postsecondary curriculum and operational activities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural multiethnic community with individuals of varied backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated funding success through grant writing.
  • Demonstrated curriculum development.
  • Ability to apply local state and federal regulations to College instructional programs.
  • Knowledge of state and federal funding procedures and requirements.
  • Knowledge in developing and implementing budgets.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Education and Experience:
  • Masters degree in Nursing from an accredited institution required.
  • Three 3 years of successful experience as an administrator or supervisor in a community college or other postsecondary educational institution.
  • Three 3 years of teaching experience in a postsecondary educational institution. Fulltime teaching experience preferred.
(A comparable amount of training education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Licenses Certifications or Registrations:
  • Clear and active Florida Registered Nurse License.

Physical Skills:
  • None required.

  • Works inside in an office environment clinical or hospital setting and outside as required.
