With the guidance of the pastor the Director of Music will be responsible for the music ministry and coordinating sacred music at two weekend Masses. Holy Days Sacramental celebrations funerals some weddings devotions and some national holidays. Rehearse and lead choir for weekend Mass. Essential Functions
- Select music and serve as lead accompanist on our Casavant organ for: weekend Masses Holy Days and Triduum and additional devotions and special liturgical events as scheduled.
- Rehearse with the choir once per week and collaborate with staff of the parish and attend staff meetings if possible.
- Schedule other musicians as needed for weekend Masses Holy Day Masses and other liturgies.
- Schedule cantors for weddings and funerals.
- Prepare annual budget for liturgical music and ensure that expenses adhere to approved budget.
- Develop and maintain a sacred music library of various styles for assembly choirs cantors and instrumentalists.
- In collaboration with Pastor engage in ongoing initiatives to educate all individuals involved in music ministry and the assembly on the proper role of sacred music in liturgy in accordance with Church documents.
- Ensure that tuning preventive maintenance and repairs are performed on a timely basis for musical instruments at all worship sites.
- Work cooperatively with the Sunday evening Director of Contemporary Music when necessary.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Music or related field strongly preferred.
- Must be proficient in organ piano choral conducting and vocal coaching.
- Minimum 3 years prior experience as a liturgical musician or director of liturgical music preferably in a Catholic parish.
- Strong working knowledge of the treasury of sacred music particularly within Catholic Church tradition; ability to integrate appropriate sacred music into each liturgical season and celebration.
- Working knowledge of Catholic liturgical rites including Sacramental celebrations and the liturgical documents of the Catholic Church particularly as they relate to sacred music including but not limited to: Sacrosanctum Concilium Musicum Sacram and the General Instruction on the Roman Missal.
- Strong organizational interpersonal and collaborative skills.
- Ability to supervise and counsel volunteers and paid members of the music ministry.
Range: $25.00 32.00 Hourly
Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location skills education experience for this role and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus which is determined upon company and individual performance.
