As an applied physicist you will join the Linear and NonLinear Optics Section (LNO) within the Accelerator and Beam Physics Group (ABP) under the Beams Department (BE) where you will be working on Magnetic and beambased Modeling in CERN synchrotrons.
For the first time in 60 years of operation it has been shown that we can develop magnetic models of the Proton Synchrotron (PS) main magnets to accurately predict changes in tune and chromaticity as energy increases.
This involved improving the magnetic model of the complex PS main magnets and refining the MADX optics models that estimate parameters based on OPERA predictions. It also required very careful setup of the optics measurements for comparison.
As an Applied Physicist you will continue this work:

What we offer
About us
At CERN the European Organization for Nuclear Research physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the worlds largest and most complex scientific instruments they study the basic constituents of matter fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on .
