Job Description
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Temporary parttime position; June 9July 3 2025
PRIMARY DUTY:The Academic and Support Advisor provides Upward Bound participants with academic personal career financial and social advisement. This position works closely with other members of the project in a teamoriented environment to meet the needs of the participants.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Determine individual needs of up to 35 project participants through assessment of their academic personal career financial and social needs
- Sensitivity to and familiarity with the social economic and cultural background of lowincome and/or first generation students
- Knowledge of developmental issues of high school students and demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to multicultural issues
- Provide individual and group advising services to participants
- Plan and facilitate workshops in given focus areas based upon student needs
- Serve as a liaison between students faculty and various departments on campus
- Maintain appropriate documentation to meet Federal guidelines
- Knowledge of various computer software and data management systems including but not limited to Google Drive and Canvas.
- Coordinate with Coordinator of Counseling for project evaluation and reporting required for federal recordkeeping
- Proctor and interpret standardized career assessments
- Advocate for individual participant needs and communicate participant concerns to appropriate staff
- Maintain participant confidentiality (this is a mandatory reporting position)
- Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings
- Attend and participate in a jobtraining workshop
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelors degree and significant progress toward an advanced degree in Guidance and Counseling Social Work or Psychology is required
Experience: Classroom or related experiences with disadvantaged youth from rural areas
Skills: Demonstrated leadership skills; energetic; responsible; creative; knowledge of effective teaching and learning processes; ability to work with high school students; maintain confidentiality; effective communication skills (written oral and interpersonal with an emphasis in relating to student needs); individual and group advising skills; ability to work with a variety of learners needs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:This position works in airconditioned shared office and/or classroom setting

SALARY:$1058 for the 4week summer program for approximately 14 hours per week;rate determined by approved Grant and available UB grant funds.
