Job Description

Under the general direction of the Licensing Supervisor the Licensing Examiner is responsible for reviewing and evaluating all applications for alcoholic beverage and licenses endorsements and permits. The Examiner advises the Control Board (MCB) and Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Board on potential issues of concern regarding statutory and regulatory compliance for applications the Examiner has reviewed. The Examiner completes all post board meeting delegations to ensure timely issuance of approved applications.

The Examiner works in a team environment sharing their expertise with a team of Examiners AMCOs Enforcement Unit Regulation Specialist 2 Local Government Specialist 4 administrative support staff Licensing Supervisor Program Coordinator and Director.

The Examiner regularly communicates with applicants; attorneys for applicants; local city/borough/municipal governments; other state agencies such as planning revenue and fire safety; the public at large; and assists individuals in identifying the appropriate license endorsement or permit type for their business needs.

In this role you will be an essential part of the Education and Outreach Team comprised of a Regulations Specialist and Project Assistant. This position opens and maintains the paths of communication with internal and external agencies.

The working environment you can expect:
The position is part of a sevenperson team consisting of Licensing Examiners and a Supervisor located in Anchorage at the State of Alaska Atwood building on the 16th floor. There are spectacular views of the inlet close to the park strip for those summer walks and within walking distance to various eating establishments.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Examining and processing license applications; interpreting and applying established criteria rules regulations policies and procedures; researching State and federal laws and regulations; preparing written communication detailing examinations made discrepancies noted and corrections needed; and/or responding to difficult customers with tact and diplomacy.

Additional Required Information

  • A professionally written writing sample.

  • A list of three professional references. These references must include your relationship (past supervisor colleague etc. to the professional reference person.

If postsecondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications you must fill in the Education section of the application.
