POSITION DETAILS

  • 1 block of Junior LAC Math
  • 1 block of Junior LAC Science
  • 1 block of Senior LAC Math
  • 1 block of Senior LAC Science
  • 1 block of Senior LAC Skills Development Center
  • 2 blocks of Workplace Mathematics 10

The Learning Assistance Program is designed for students Grade 8 through 12 with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities. Students typically exhibit academic language and social delays. The program emphasizes functional academics community awareness health and physical fitness consumer education vocational preparation and work experience. Students are integrated into electives whenever possible.

The successful candidate should have experience and/or university training in the teaching of Mathematics and/or Science at the Secondary Level. The successful candidate should have training and/or experience within Special Education and will be responsible for:

  • Developing implementing and evaluating individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Developing implementing and evaluating individualized and classwide positive behaviour support plans.
  • Liaising with parents school and district staff.
  • Coordinating the Senior LAC program at John Oliver Secondary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of a Bachelor of Education
  • Completion of one of the following:Masters in Special Education D iploma in Special Education or one year FullTime Continuing contract as a Special Education/Resource Teacher.
  • BC Teaching Certificate
  • Registration with the Teacher Qualification Service
