What will you do
- Verify the lot grading work of property owners landscapers and grading contractors by conducting site inspection of residential commercial and industrial developments
- Assess potential impact of lot grading on adjacent properties evaluate degree of nonconformance and conditionally approve or recommend proposals to rectify nonconformances
- Authorize rough and final lot grade certificates for residential commercial and industrial developments
- Respond to inquiries verbally and through formal letters utilizing knowledge of engineering principles and Drainage Bylaw 18093 explaining grading concepts regulations and reasons of failed inspection
- Check lot grading certificates and lot grading plans for compliance with Drainage Bylaw 18093 and lot grading guidelines and ensure any special conditions are met
- Maintain the filing and database systems for all applicable lot grading cases and files

- Completion of a 2year diploma in a Civil Structural Architectural Geological Engineering Survey Construction or Landscaping Architecture Technology
- Minimum 2 years of experience related to lot grading engineering survey landscaping or civil construction
- Must be eligible to be recognized as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T. with ASET or provincial equivalent
Skills required for success:
- Considerable knowledge of applicable bylaws standards and regulations related to assigned work
- Knowledge of Drainage Bylaw Bylaw 18093 and good drainage practices is required
- Experience directly related to drainage including engineering surveying landscaping surface runoff directly resolving issues with contractors developers and the general public lot grading and civil construction
- Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders including strong interpersonal verbal/written communication and conflict resolution skills
- Strong time management skills and the ability to make decisions and perform work tasks independently
- Ability to read interpret and design complex and technical plans specifications diagrams and charts
- Physical ability to work outside in all weather and environmental conditions
- Ability to use a variety of computer software to complete work tasks; experience with POSSE is an asset
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Sheets Docs Slides Forms Drive) would be an asset

Conditions of Employment:
- Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position. There may be a cost associated with this requirement.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers license (or provincial equivalent).You will be required to arrange your own transportation for use while on City business. Where appropriate you will be reimbursed for expenses related to that travel in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. You will be required to obtain business auto insurance.
- Compliance with the City of Edmontons safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as wearing steel toed boots is a requirement for this position.
Work Environment:
- Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
