Job Summary

Highland Community Center is seeking an upbeat outgoing and energetic leader for our annual adaptive summer day camp. The lead will be responsible for planning implementing and overseeing Highland Community Centers adaptive day camp. Responsibility areas tend be more comprehensive than at the recreation assistant II level incumbents oversee programmatic areas rather than individual elements of an established program. The Highland Community Center offers 4 weeks of day camp for youth ages 415y and one week with young adults 1621y with intellectual and physical disabilities. Campers go out on field trips three days a week and the other two days remain at Highland Community Center and participate in a wide variety of camp activities.

Hours: Monday Friday 8:30am 3:15pm

Training: June 23 27

Camp: July 7 Aug 8 No camp on July 3July 7

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan outings and activities for participants age 4y to 21y
  • Supervises day camp staff
  • Facilitates day to day camp activities.
  • Upholds City of Bellevue procedures throughout camp
  • Plans and implements morning day camp staff meetings
  • Contributes to purchasing and budgetary decisions
  • Enforces City of Bellevue policy
  • Responsible for day camp preparation and set up.
  • Formulates and communicates activity ideas.
  • Works closely with patrons parents or participants to meet needs and ensure appropriate care for all participants.
  • Handles multiple tasks or a large volume of work.
  • Program will be highly visible is large and complex; community resources will be used to implement.
  • Supervision Received and Exercised
  • Will drive City van and operate wheelchair lift.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience working with participants living with intellectual disabilities.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience implementing recreation programs; past responsibility for outcome of a recreation related program or activity.
  • Will have responsibility for development and management of day camp activities.
  • Must be able to multitask and work in various environments.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prior work experience or education in recreation or a related field.
  • Past work experience planning or supervising a recreation program.
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Driving is required; must have a drivers license and good driving record.
  • First Aid CPR or other specialized certification or training will be provided.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Work involves walking talking hearing using hands to handle feel or operate objects or controls and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Job tasks involve work with youth and young adults of such a nature that the employee may be called on to make physical interventions push wheelchairs and load vans etc.
  • Work will be performed primarily outdoors at least 80 of the time.
  • Work will be emotionally demanding (will be working with at risk youth physically disabled persons or in potentially dangerous situations animals etc).
  • Work will be physically demanding (participation in athletics lifting heavy loads pushing wheelchairs etc).

Supplemental Information

This is a seasonal nonexempt nonunion position.Definition of a Seasonal Employee:

  • Must be preapproved by Human Resources to ensure compliance with the legislation.
  • Regularly scheduled to work up to 40 hours per week for which the customary annual employment is six months or less.
  • Customary means that the nature of the position typically lasts for six months or fewer and that the period of employment begins at approximately the same time each year.
NOTE: Will be considered fulltime and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12month measurement period (or 130 hours per month).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Some positions may require obtaining a commercial drivers license (CDL) licensures or additional certifications.
