SALARY RANGE: $74803.00 $119684.00 ANNUALLY

BACKGROUND CHECK:

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

PROBATION:

All persons including current City employees selected for thisposition must complete a mandatory 6month probation.

ELIGIBILITY:

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

EDUCATION ACCREDITATION:

Applicants education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at .

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

An Engineer I prepares and reviews engineering plans designs specifications and cost estimates. Work of this class may involve overseeing the work of drafting subprofessional engineering and other personnel.

Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical supervisor. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office setting under normal working conditions. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only classified City employees who indicate the minimum qualifications on their applications and have successfully completed a probationary period on or before the day of filing an application are eligible to compete in this examination. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential therefore that you give complete and accurate information on your application. Vagueness or omission may prevent you from being considered for this position. Qualified candidates will not be listed in rank order.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

On or before the date of filing the application classified employees must:

EDUCATION:Have a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

AND

EXPERIENCE: N/A.

OR

EQUIVALENCIES: A masters degree in engineering may be substituted for the Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES:

Some positions in this class require an EngineerInTraining certificate from the State of Maryland.

Some positions in this class require an Engineering Technologist certification from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET).

Some positions in this class require current licensure as a Professional Engineer issued by the Maryland State Board of Professional Engineers or equivalent outofstate license.

Some positions in this class require a valid Maryland Class C NonCommercial drivers license or an equivalent drivers license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City drivers permit.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.

  • Ability to apply the principles and practices of engineering.

  • Ability to prepare technical reports and to conduct engineering investigations.

  • Ability to work effectively with engineers consultants and developers.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to interpret City engineering standards policies technical requirements and codes.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Applicants must provide sufficient information on their application to show that they meet the qualifications for this recruitment. Successful applicants will be placed on the employment certified eligible list for at least six months.

The examination will consist of a rating of your education training and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete supplemental questions to further examine specific Knowledge Skills and Abilities of the position. Therefore it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.

NOTE: Those eligibles that are under final consideration for appointment to some positions in these classes will be required to authorize release of criminal conviction information.
