Member of Technical Staff - Applied Science Manager AGI Autonomy

Amazon has launched a new research lab in San Francisco to develop foundational capabilities for useful AI agents. Were enabling practical AI to make our customers more productive empowered and fulfilled. In particular our work combines large language models (LLMs) with reinforcement learning (RL) to solve reasoning planning and world modeling in both virtual and physical environments. Our research builds on that of Amazons broader AGI organization which recently introduced Amazon Nova a new generation of stateoftheart foundation models (FMs).

Our lab is a small talentdense team with the resources and scale of Amazon. Each team in the lab has the autonomy to move fast and the longterm commitment to pursue highrisk highpayoff research. Key job responsibilities
You will contribute directly to AI agent development in a research management role: leading a research team aligning their goals with the broader lab mentoring team members and hiring great people. You will be hired as a Member of Technical Staff.

2 years experience in formal management roles (i.e. with at least 3 direct reports)
Expertise in machine vision autonomous systems natural language processing or related AI/ML field
Proficiency in Python Java C or related language
Track record of successful projects in an applied research context

Ability to develop and articulate a clear scientific strategy that aligns with organizational goals
Experience in mentoring and developing scientific talent fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning
Ability to communicate results and insights to both technical and nontechnical audiences including through presentations and written reports
Capacity to work autonomously while effectively leading a team to achieve research objectives
Strong interpersonal skills to motivate and guide team members

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $120000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $350000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on jobrelated knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
