Job Description

Position: Prevention Worker

Location: White Rock BC

Hours: Casual Evenings and Weekends

Salary: $24.46/hour

Start Date: ASAP


We are looking for a Casual Prevention Worker to join our Prevention team! Ideally this individual has a valid Standard First Aid Certificate naloxone training expert knowledge in harm reduction and is a team player.

Description of Position:

Reporting to: Manager of Prevention System Navigation and Peer Support Services.

General Responsibilities:

  • Effectively utilize Office suite including Excel Word Outlook and central data systems

  • Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with diverse range of cliental including individuals who use substances and living with significant health and behavioral challenges
  • Demonstrated understanding of the spirit of harm reduction and safer use practices

Programspecific Responsibilities:

  • Set up and take down of the injection/insufflation consumption stations at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Set up and take down includes tables chairs sharps containers mirrors and harm reduction supplies.
  • Set up and take down of inhalation tent at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Witness people use substances via injection insufflation ingestion and inhalation to prevent including the administration of naloxone first aid or emergency response when required.
  • Provide response including the SAVE ME steps which may involve administering Naloxone.
  • Provide safer use and harm reduction supplies and resource information when desired by program participants.
  • Work with service partners and other external service providers to ensure the programs are coordinated and integrated with the larger continuums of care including integration between the OPS and the Peer Support Network.
  • Promote the interest of substance users and the program with systems of care external service partners and community resources by offering harm reduction supplies education and resources. Connecting substance users by referral to external services and programs.
  • Provide program utilization data and stats by daily sign in sheets reporting on number of clients toxic drug poisonings referrals supplies given out and peer work offered.

Qualifications:

  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Grade 12 or GED
  • 1 year of related experience with emphasis on mental health substance use homelessness and/or social services
  • Prevention Recognition and Response Training including Naloxone Administration
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training (Training may be accessed through Sources)
  • Criminal Records check
  • Mandatory full COVID vaccination (Required by Fraser health authority)
