Human Resources Manager Farms and Facilities Job Description

For over forty years Central Garden & Pet has been dedicated to our purpose of nurturing happy and healthy homes by providing consumers with winning brands superior products and innovative solutions. Bell Nursery a business unit of Central Garden & Pet is searching for a talented Human Resources Manager with terrific leadership and multitasking skills to support multiple farm sites within our Live Goods business.

This handson role requires daily interaction with leadership as well as employees across multiple farm sites. You will partner with the VP of Operations and the Director of Human Resources to lead the functional areas of HR at your respective sites. This role will report to the HR Director for Live Goods and will be based out of our Bridgeton NJ office location. This position requires some travel to the farms in the Bridgeton and surrounding areas. This role will work in support of our Central to Home strategy and drive progressive HR initiatives that strengthen our Culture pillar. MEASURES OF SUCCESS

Employee recruiting hiring and retention

  • Lead full lifecycle recruitment for hourly and salaried roles for a group of farms/facilities. Proactively identify talent gaps needs and provide creative recruiting solutions.
  • Administer the requisition/approval process and partner with the Central recruiting team for all advertising and recruiting support.
  • Maintain compliance by managing the background drug test and eVerify process.
  • Be a leader in the Talent Planning initiatives within their area and work in partnership with the Director of Human Resources and facility.

General Managers to plan for human capital needs

  • Conduct stay and exit interviews and act as a conduit in the approval process for personnel actions/changes (PAF).
  • Acting as the HR leader to interpret human resources policy and procedures.
  • Efficient response to Human Resources queries from facility managers.
  • Lead the Progressive Coaching process throughout their respective regions ensuring due process for all employees.
  • Conduct workplace investigations in partnership with facility managers.
  • Assist with establishing implementing and documenting policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate leadership and guidance across multiple sites by coaching counseling and problem solving with operational leaders and frontline managers.

Training and Development

  • Lead the onboarding process and newhire orientations. Ensure all newhire paperwork is completed accurately timely and that the HRIS system is updated.
  • Partner with the Director of Human Resources for the development planning and implementation of all Learning & Development initiatives for your support areas.
  • Support technical training in the areas of IT rollouts HRIS program areas and other software initiatives or changes that would affect their respective area.
  • Organization of training materials/manuals for key employee groups and training.
  • Assess training needs in each of your support areas.
  • Facilitate the accident/incident reporting and investigating process including training for facility management.
  • Manage the workers compensation process for multiple facilities.
  • Promote a positive work environment and increase employee engagement.

Qualifications

Additional responsibilities of the Human Resources Manager:

  • Lead the Change Management/Process Improvement area for all Paycom (HRIS) initiatives by monitoring Paycom system updates and communicating updates to the respective employees/areas.
  • Conduct training on Performance Reviews Paycom and compliance.
  • Work in conjunction with the Benefit Manager to coordinate benefit administration and support benefit inquiries for your areas.
  • Demonstrate leadership and guidance across multiple sites by coaching counseling and problem solving with operational leaders and frontline managers.
  • Administration of the HRIS system records for your area.
  • Organize and coordinate employee recognition events on a regional basis.
  • Interact with employees at all levels within a area of farms and facilities.
  • Drive a positive culture that creates an inspiring employee experience.


IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES

  • Bilingual Skill set in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Bachelors degree in human resources or related field or equivalent experience with 510 years experience in Human Resources. Green industry merchandising or distribution industry a plus.
  • SHRM Certification a plus.
  • Systems knowledge and ability to learn new technology. Specific proficiency in HRIS systems Outlook Excel and PowerPoint required. Experience with analyzing data to determine value of various programs and make recommendations based on data results.
  • Experience creating and maintaining critical Human Resources administrative functions.
  • Ability to interact with employees at all levels (distribution greenhouse regional corporate employees and managers) and maintain a professional image at all times.
  • Possess a high level of professionalism with the ability to perform under deadlines and multitask. Ability to remain calm and professional when involved in stressful situations.
  • Strong communication interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to drive a positive culture that creates an inspiring employee experience.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail organizational and analytical skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with confidential data.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Distribution centers greenhouses and office environment requiring the ability to sit stand and walk as needed to interact with employees and managers.
  • Required travel within respective farms. Periodic travel to the companys Maryland offices for meetings/events.
