The Sammarco lab in the Department of Orthopedics focuses on limb regeneration after traumatic injury investigating mechanisms underlying impaired regeneration and identifying therapeutics to activate latent regenerative abilities or improve the integration of prosthetics. The overall goal is to improve quality of life for people with limb loss or limb differences. Dr. Sammarco and her team in the Limb and Musculoskeletal Regenerative Research Laboratory use a mouse model of digit tip amputation to understand the complex interactions of a multitissue regenerative system and identify the mechanisms that drive cell differentiation and patterning during the regenerative process. Current projects focus on 1 mitochondrial remodeling and metabolism during limb regeneration and patterning 2 the role of sensory nerves in bone and soft tissue regeneration and 3 the impact of inflammation during regenerative healing and fibrotic scarring.
The Senior Research Tech would support ongoing bench and animal work within the lab related to regeneration. Duties would include routine molecular bench work combined with use of animal models (animal handling injections surgeries sample collection) as well as downstream processing (histology flow cytometry cell culture) under supervision of the PI. Candidate should be highly goal and detail oriented and have strong teamwork skills. Training will be provided on many inlab techniques but previous experience working with mice and some molecular technique is highly preferred.
Independently sets up and performs experiments and procedures in support of lab goals and grant commitments (e.g. assays cell/tissue culture animal studies etc.. Contributes to the planning design and modification of studies and experiments in the research lab setting. Monitors results reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications. Collects enters summarizes and analyzes data. May oversee and assist with the training of residents fellows and temporary lab personnel in lab techniques. Works with minimal supervision and performs assignments independently as discussed and approved by Principal Investigator.
Prior experience in all techniques is not required personnel will be fully trained in all techniques within the lab.
Qualifications:
Requires bachelors degree in biology chemistry or other relevant science with 4 years of research laboratory experience. Masters degree in biology chemistry or other relevant science preferred.
Additional Experience and/or Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in biology chemistry or other relevant science preferred. Mouse breeding colony and handling experience is a plus. Prior exposure to molecular techniques such as immunohistochemistry cell culture assays and qPCR is helpful but not necessary. Familiarity with GraphPad and Adobe Illustrator is helpful but not necessary. Personnel will be fully trained in all additional techniques within the lab.
Required Experience:
Senior IC
