Position Summary
The Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies seeks the next Director of the National African Language Resource Center NALRC . The goals of the NALRC are to enhance the teaching and learning of African languages; to establish and maintain networks among African language teachers professional language teacher associations and other foreign language centers; to coordinate African language teaching and learning resources available in the United States; to disseminate information and materials on the teaching and learning of African languages; and to evaluate and promote African language instructional programs. The NALRC Director will provide leadership for the growth and development of these various programmatic endeavors and will coordinate with HLS leadership. Additional specific responsibilities of the NALRC director include the following: Develop and implement a strategic vision for advancing African language teaching and learning in the United States. Supervise the development and dissemination of teaching and learning materials for African languages. Promote public awareness and engagement with African languages. Oversee the management of the centers budget staff and operations. Lead NALRCs successful completion of its responsibilities as a Title VI Language Resource Center and supervising the application for renewal of the Title VI grant and other grants as relevant. Develop and implement strategies for increased funding and institutional support for African language programs at Indiana University through external grants and giving in coordination with HLSs assistant dean for research and director of development. Represent NALRC and HLS at relevant academic and instructional conferences. Coordinate with other HLS units and with HLS leadership regarding school policies and practices. As negotiated teach courses on African culture language or language acquisition for the African Studies Program. Foster partnerships with academic institutions language programs and professional organizations. Organize training workshops conferences and institutes to enhance educators instructional skills. Guide the publication of resources such as the Journal of African Language Teachers Association.
