Job Description

Since our launch in mid2022 Avant Laws commercial division has been on a phenomenal growth journey building a team of around 30 staff across 4 major Australian cities. As part of the next phase of our journey Avant Law is looking to expand its national footprint by establishing and growing a presence in South Australia. Drawing on our heritage as part of the Avant Mutual Group Australias leading medical organisation with over 130 years of history Avant Law has supported more than 2000 clients by delivering specialised commercial legal advice across the medical health and broader business sectors.
We are seeking an ambitious lawyer who is looking for growth opportunities to join our Adelaide team on a permanent fulltime basis. The role reports to the Partner and Head of Commercial & Corporate who has over 15 years experience at global law firms and ASXlisted companies and has a genuine interest in mentoring and developing the lawyers in his team.

Our Commercial & Corporate lawyers work closely with clients to provide pragmatic legal advice across all aspects of commercial and corporate law. We serve businesses and individuals across a wide range of industries including medical and allied health professional services insurance utilities and media.


The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • growing Avant Laws Commercial & Corporate presence in the Avant Groups Adelaide office
  • fostering relationships with existing Avant Group staff across our other businesses;
  • supporting management of legal files and prospective client opportunities under partner supervision as part of a growing practice;
  • transaction matters such as M&A including the sale and purchase of medical practices;
  • structuring matters from establishment to scaling to exit strategy;
  • daytoday commercial matters including practitioner service agreements commercial contracts governance terms and conditions and policies;
  • intellectual property; and
  • data compliance governance and privacy matters.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • have a strong desire to pursue opportunities for growth and building relationships with clients and referral partners;
  • have a relevant law degree with strong academic results and be eligible to hold an unsupervised practising certificate as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of South Australia or the High Court of Australia;
  • have 35 years or more of postadmission experience in commercial and corporate law; and
  • demonstrate a desire and willingness to support the ongoing expansion of Avant Law through marketing and business development in South Australia including attending major industry conferences and participating in speaking engagements.
