Job Description

ABOUT WILLIAMS LAKE FIRST NATION (WLFN)

The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN) or the Texelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane in nearby Williams Lake BC and across the globe.

We are Culturally Centered Future Focused.

POSITION

Reporting to the Stewardship Forester.

Employment Type

Term (May 5th August 29th 2025 full time35 hours per week.

Probation Period

3 months from the date of hire.

Education Required

Postsecondary education in Forestry and/or Environment or related fields.

Experience Required

Minimum 1 year experience in forestry fieldbased forestry environmental or related experience.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Works collaboratively with other researchers on data collection.

2. Works cooperatively with contractors and stakeholders in addition to working independently in a field environment.

3. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding the status of projects.

4. Assists the Stewardship Forester Silviculture Forester and Natural Resources department where required.

5. Supports the mission vision and values of Williams Lake First Nation.

6. Contributes to Williams Lake First Nations ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.

7. Ministry staff collaboration days focused on vegetation.

8. Ministry staff collaboration days focused on field plots.

9. Ministry staff collaboration days focused on working with soil.

10. Several days of Fire Training with UBC.

11. Data Entry.

Preference will be given to those of Aboriginal Ancestry per Section 161 of the Canadian Human Rights Act.
