Purpose

The purpose of this document is to facilitate the recruitment of a TenureTrack Assistant Professor to the Department of Radiation Oncology Section of Radiation Biology. Crossappointment in the Department of Pathology/Section on Comparative Medicine and membership in the Comprehensive Cancer Center of AWFBH are anticipated.

Position Summary:

This TenureTrack Assistant Professor will provide unique crossdisciplinary expertise in imaging and biomarker assessments of radiation responseas part of an integrated team of investigators in Radiation Oncology Comparative Medicine and the Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Health Comprehensive Cancer Center. Experience with research focused on neurocognitive effects lung toxicity and other normal tissue and tumor responses to radiation in preclinical models is preferred.

This individual will be a pivotal team member needed to maximize the value of the NIHapproved and funded Primate Imaging & Irradiation Resource (PRIMIR) at the Clarkson Campus enabling the research team to perform fullytranslatable prospective and longitudinal NIHfunded radiation late effects studies as well as radiation therapy and immunotherapy trials with NHPs with onsite access to a clinical linear accelerator (LINAC) advanced imaging capabilities (PETCT 3T MR Imaging)

Current funded programs requiring effort by this individual include the Nonhuman Primate (NHP) Radiation Late Effects Cohort and the Primate Cancer Initiative.

The Wake Forest Nonhuman Primate Radiation Late Effects Cohort is a unique and invaluable NIH/NIAID longitudinallyfunded 20year resource from which to perform translational studies that 1 test effective radiation mitigation strategies 2 quantitatively assess multiorgan morbidities and 3 define patterns of Resilience Aging and Response to Radiation Exposure (RARRE) through a new subproject funded by the National Institute on Aging.

The Primate Cancer Initiative is a collaborative interinstitutional program designed to identify naturallyoccurring nonhuman primate cancer cases and treat them with novel immunotherapeutic strategies for which a primatespecific target is needed. This program is funded through a collaboration with Roche Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development the AWFB Comprehensive Cancer Center and the NIHsponsored National Primate Research Centers and has contributed to the development of 3 novel immunotherapeutics now in clinical trials.

These programs complement our human clinical research trials for optimal tumor treatment while preventing normal tissue toxicity. Ultimately treatment optimization to improve the longterm quality of life for our survivors will be the primary aim of this proposed recruitment and research program.

Additional programs that may benefit from this individuals specialized expertise include neuroscience and aging/neurodegenerative disease research within the Atrium research enterprise.
