Job Title:Specialty Doctor in Adult Psychiatry
Grade:Specialty Doctor
Location:Luton Bedfordshire
Working Hours:40 hours
Rate:Competitive to be discussed upon application

We are seeking an enthusiastic Specialty Doctor in Adult Psychiatry to join our NHS clients inpatient team based in Luton Bedfordshire. This vacancy is available on a locum basis for the successful candidate to start immediately for a shortterm contract.

What will your responsibilities be

You will provide clinical leadership for Crystal Ward an 18bed female acute ward where you will be responsible for the care of 9 patients and work alongside Dr. Kurt Buhagiar who will be the Responsible Clinician (RC) for the remainder of the patients. You will be well supported by 2 junior doctors as part of a wellfunctioning multidisciplinary team (MDT) including a Matron Ward Manager and an excellent nursing team with fulltime support from Occupational Therapy (OT) and Psychology. Crystal is a busy acute ward with a turnover of approximately 28 patients per month and an average length of stay of 26 days. Your responsibilities will include providing consultant leadership to the multidisciplinary ward team comprehensive assessment diagnosis treatment and management of the mental and physical health for 11 acutely ill adult female inpatients. You will carry out all Responsible Clinicians duties for those patients detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 maintaining all care planning in line with legal requirements. These duties will include assessing patients under the Mental Health Act capacity assessments consent to treatment tribunal report writing attending Mental Health Act Review Tribunals and Managers Hearings granting Section 17 leave revoking CTOs recommending CTOs etc. You will assume clinical responsibility for adult patients with mental illness admitted acutely from community services (all admissions will be gatekept by the Crisis Resolution/Home Treatment team). Additionally you will undertake all work in the context of the recovery approach which is emphasised across the Trust placing the service user at the center of care planning and decision making. You will attend the ward on a daily basis to review patients enable facilitation of the care program approach and involve carers when appropriate at each stage of the inpatient stay.

Qualifications and Experiences:

  • Full GMC registration
  • Experience working in psychiatry within multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience working as a doctor within a similar environment
  • MRCPsych (desirable)
