The City of Cupertino is seeking a collaborative leader to be the next Assistant City Manager (ACM). This role is pivotal in supporting the City Manager by planning organizing and directing the services and activities for the City Managers Office and overseeing key citywide projects and initiatives. The ACM coordinates across the organization to ensure alignment with the City Councils priorities as outlined in the City Work Program.
Reporting directly to the City Manager the ACM will play a key role in driving operational efficiency crossdepartmental cooperation and overseeing vital functions and special projects. The ACM will oversee largescale projects strategic communication and other citywide initiatives.
The ACM will identify opportunities for improvement and guide the implementation of changes that enhance overall performance and service delivery. The ACM will regularly assess the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods including work distribution support systems and internal reporting structures. With multiple direct reports the ACM will oversee the development management and administration of departmental budgets ensuring the effective allocation of resources to meet the Citys goals.
In partnership with the City Manager the ACM will also assist in implementing key directives and policies across departments. They will guide department heads ensuring that projects and programs are completed successfully on time and in alignment with the Citys longterm vision. The ACM will be a key figure in creating a collaborative environment among department heads encouraging them to work together in resolving both organizational and community challenges.
Additionally the ACM will coordinate the development and administration of the Citys budget and Capital Improvement Program assisting with budget forecasting and ensuring the costeffectiveness of programs and projects. They will represent the City on various intergovernmental committees task forces and commissions addressing city management and assigned program matters. By staying abreast of legal regulatory technological and societal changes the ACM will ensure that the City remains compliant and adapts to new trends and innovations.
The next Assistant City Manager will serve as a vital link between the City Manager City Council department heads and the community. They will have the opportunity to prepare and present staff reports respond to public inquiries and complaints and serve as a spokesperson for the City at various community events and meetings. This position requires a proactive and dedicated individual committed to enhancing the quality of life for the Citys residents.

With a strong foundation in leadership principles and strategic plan implementation the successful candidate will have substantial experience in local government or a similar environment with a proven track record of successfully managing complex projects and leading teams.
The Assistant City Manager will be a key player in the strategic leadership of the City helping to execute the longterm vision alongside the City Council City Manager and department heads. This role will involve developing and maintaining strong lines of communication with all stakeholders including the City Manager the executive team department staff residents businesses and other public and private partners.

Qualifications
Minimum requirements include any combination of education training and experience equivalent to a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business or public administration public policy finance or a related field and nine 9 years of administrative experience within local government five 5 of which must be in a management capacity. Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Drivers License is also required.
Preferred qualifications include a masters degree in public administration or other field and experience working effectively in a multicultural welleducated highly engaged community. Demonstrated experience leading crossdepartmental teams special projects strategic planning initiatives and improving system and services to better serve community needs is also preferred.
Form of Government
The Cupertino City Council operates under a councilmanager form of government with five elected members serving fouryear terms. The Council selects a Mayor and Vice Mayor annually at a special meeting each December with consecutive terms prohibited for these leadership roles. This system blends elected officials policymaking with professional City management to represent residents and guide Cupertinos development.
