You will rely on your extensive knowledge and experience in the operation of power generation or related industrial system equipment to provide handson responsibility for starting stopping and monitoring of all plant equipment.

As a Control Room Operator you will be responsible for the operation maintenance and troubleshooting of the Power Facility while assigned on shift.
You will contribute to our team by:
- Operating maintaining and troubleshooting equipment on 900mw CCGT power plant.
- Complete Lockout Tagout Confined Space and other permits required to perform work on or inspect plant equipment.
- Performs hazard identification and mitigation for maintenance work performed by self plant peers and/or contractors on site.
- Working rotating work shifts and responding quickly to plant conditions or requirements which may involve extended and/or abnormal work hours including callins.
- Performing the required activities of the control room and auxiliary operator watch stations as assigned which includes the operation and performance monitoring of all equipment test and treatment of plant water chemistry creation and maintenance of plant records extensive use of personal computers and distributed control systems qualifying and maintaining qualification etc.
- Safely and efficiently start stop and operate all plant equipment within design and recommended parameters.
- Maintains real time communications with the grid operator Energy Trading and the IESO to ensure compliance with dispatch and system control.
- Maintaining high professional personnel and equipment safety and environmental consciousness and compliance standards and practices.
- Ensuring all environmental permit conditions are constantly met.
- Performing other assigned independent team or shift tasks such as system expert industrial safety program activities routine maintenance tasks housekeeping and general facility preservation etc.
- Supports the development of standards and procedures for quality assurance in area of expertise and contributes to audits inspects and assessments for continuous improvement.
- Utilizing the facilitys computer management system to enter review and plan work orders.
- Performing maintenance and operations PMS as required including planning and completion of work.
- Qualifying and maintaining qualification as a control room and auxiliary plant operator.
- Capable of operating heavy equipment such as a man lift and/or forklift.
- Assisting in identifying and implementing profit improvement projects.
- Maximizing plant efficiency and profits without degrading personnel and equipment safety practices environmental requirements or concerns or the long term operation of the plant.
- Operating and maintaining Combined Cycle power generating facility equipment with minimal guidance or assistance as directed.
- Managing contractors onsite and makes arrangements for services to be performed through the CMMS and business process rules.
- Development of operations procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Interfacing with IESO and Hydro One in the management of plant and system outages.
- Assisting in additional training and support as required.
- Ownership and accountability are taken for work tasks and deliverables.
- Performing inspections on each system in the plant.
- Assists in identifying and performing the root cause of system failures.
- Willing to work independently most of the time but can effectively work in a team environment when needed.
What you will bring to the role:
Education:
- Completed High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Ontario Operating Engineer 3rd Class Certificate 2nd and 1st are welcome) or
- Ontario Operating Engineer 4th Class Certificate with relevant experience with the requirement to achieve 3rd Class Certification within two years of employment.
Experience
- 1 to 3 years of experience in operating and/or maintaining of combined or simple cycle power plant or other heavy industrial energy plant is preferable.
- Demonstrates good knowledge of all parts of the power plant operations or capability to learn quickly.
- Must be able to assume accountability prioritize and respond to several tasks under possible hazardous and stressful conditions.
- Capable of writing technical procedures work requests and written records.
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
- Adequate knowledge in the use of Microsoft office and Excel.
- Demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude and dexterity in the use of the plant equipment.
- Must have the ability to read at the level of understanding written safety procedures P&IDs blueprints technical instruction manuals and other written records.
- Demonstrates the ability to interpret mechanical drawings logic drawings and piping and instrument drawings.
- Strong math and logic skills regarding trouble shooting and diagnosing problems with mechanical equipment.
- Must have and maintain a valid drivers license.
Working Conditions:
- CCGT Power plant.
- Must be willing and able to work a 12hour rotating shift and be available for callins and working overtime as needed.
- Walking reaching lifting climbing etc. (Up to 50 pounds).
- Work with hazardous materials occasionally.
Additional Details:
This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found
Wage Range: $59.96 to $64.74
Union: PWU
Hours of Work: 12 hours shifts day and night
As this is a safety sensitive position clearance of a preemployment drug & alcohol test is required subject to applicable law.
Clearance of a preemployment medical will also be required.
