Job Description

The Department of Physical Therapy in the Congdon School of Health Sciences at High Point University announces a search for a fulltime faculty member. This faculty member will help support the Department through teaching in the Musculoskeletal curriculum providing administrative leadership to the Departments outpatient clinic and conducting research. The faculty is a closeknit collaborative group that is both accomplished and highly productive in teaching research clinical practice professional service and community engagement. There is tremendous opportunity for mentorship for those relatively new to academia.

The Department of Physical Therapy at High Point University offers all the teaching and research resources of a researchintensive institution with the quality of life of a small private institution. We offer two outstanding laboratory spaces in the Human Biomechanics and Physiology Laboratory (HBAPL) and the Virtual Reality and Clinical Gait Analysis Laboratory (VRCGAL). The HBAPL is a 16000 square foot facility which includes 48 3D motion capture cameras strategically placed to include coverage of the hardwood court running and turf functional areas 14 triaxial force platforms a high speed instrumented force treadmill integrated wireless EMG pressure distribution systems and a DEXA scanner. The VRCGAL has a virtual reality treadmill an overhead body support device exoskeleton and a force plate. The Faculty may practice clinically and/or mentor students in the Departments TEAM clinic or Pro Bono Physical Therapy Clinic.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Core faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy are responsible for the delivery of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) curriculum producing new research and providing service to the Department School and University via advising admissions interviews committee service and other service responsibilities designated by the Chair. Core faculty have a differential workload meaning each faculty member is allotted varying amounts and responsibilities for teaching scholarship administration service and clinical practice.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Terminal academic doctorate (required)

Experience and Training

  • Current physical therapy license and/or eligibility for licensure in the state of North Carolina (required)
  • Experience teaching in higher education (preferred)
  • Experience teaching in DPT education (preferred)
  • Experience in clinical administration (preferred)
  • History of scholarship and active research agenda (preferred)
  • ABPTS Board certification and/or fellowship training (preferred)
  • Other professional certifications (preferred)

Knowledge Skills Ability:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (required)
  • Values teamwork collaboration selfawareness and humility (required)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Contribute to the mission vision goals and objectives of the Department School and University
  • Models the core values highlighted in the Congdon School of Health Science and Department of Physical Therapy Values Statements
  • Actively contributes across all three academic pillars (differential workload is negotiable with the Department Chair and approval of the Dean)
    • Serve the Department and/or University. This could be via:
      • Management of clinical services
      • Oversight of integrated clinical experiences
      • Treating patients in Department affiliated clinical practice(s)
    • Teach DPT students in area(s) of expertise
    • Conduct research resulting in peerreviewed publications and presentations
    • Contribute to the Department School and University through service and/or clinical mentorship as assigned in the variable workload policy
    • Helps program maintain compliance with accreditation policies and procedures

  • Performs all job responsibilities across all three academic pillars independently
