Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team in providing support to secondary school students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This role requires a strong understanding of SEN as well as the ability to provide 1:1 support and effectively manage challenging behaviour. The ideal candidate will be passionate about creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 support to students with SEN including those with Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Assist students in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities
- Support the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs)
- Work closely with the SENCO teachers and other staff to create inclusive learning opportunities
- Help manage and deescalate challenging behaviour in line with school policies
- Build positive relationships with students promoting their wellbeing and personal development
Qualifications
- Previous experience working with secondary school students with SEN
- Knowledge and understanding of a range of SEN particularly SEMH
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations
- Relevant qualifications in SEN or education (desirable)
DaytoDay
- Provide 1:1 support to designated students adapting activities to meet their individual needs
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff to implement support strategies and interventions
- Monitor and report on student progress and wellbeing
- Assist with the planning and delivery of targeted interventions to support student learning and behaviour
- Contribute to the wider school community through participation in meetings and training
