Job Description
Overview: We are seeking a detailoriented Fiber Optic Tester and Quality Assurance Specialist to join our team in Charlotte NC. This role requires extensive experience with EXFO testing equipment including OTDR and Optical Loss Test Set (OTLS) devices as well as expertise in fiber splicing and testing techniques. Your technical knowledge and proficiency with EXFO tools will be pivotal in ensuring the performance and reliability of our fiber optic networks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize EXFO OTDR and OTLS equipment to perform comprehensive fiber optic testing
including directional and bidirectional assessments.
- Conduct power meter/optical loss testing to measure critical parameters such as insertion loss and optical return loss (ORL).
- Ensure test results meet or exceed defined thresholds (e.g. <2.75 dB loss) and address any
discrepancies.
- Perform highprecision ribbon fiber splicing and multimode/singlemode splicing to maintain optimal network integrity.
- Document analyze and report test results using EXFOs software tools or related platforms.
- Collaborate with field teams to troubleshoot repair and optimize fiber optic connections.
- Maintain and calibrate EXFO testing equipment to ensure consistent accuracy in results.
- Support implementation of best practices for fiber installation testing and quality assurance.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in fiber optic testing and splicing.
- Extensive handson experience with EXFO testing equipment including OTDRs and Optical
Loss Test Sets (OTLS).
- Expertise in power meter testing ribbon fiber splicing and both multimode and singlemode fiber technologies.
Skills:
- Indepth understanding of fiber optic principles including insertion loss dB thresholds and
bidirectional testing.
- Advanced proficiency with EXFOs hardware and software tools for network diagnostics and reporting.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities with attention to detail in test result interpretation.
Certifications (Preferred):
- Fiber Optic Association (FOA) ETA or other relevant industry certifications.
- OSHA or other safety certifications are a plus.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training in telecommunications is highly desirable.
