PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The role of the Bus Driver Trainer is to train drivers/monitors and assist with clerical duties
under the direction and supervision of the Director of Transportation Coordinator for
Transportation and Bus Route Supervisors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
TEA certification requirements High School Graduate or GED
Certified school bus driver with CDL License class B with endorsements P(passengers) S(school bus)
Driver education training experience preferred
Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish TEEX Certification preferred
Clear DPS license check
Clear Federal DOT Clearinghouse license check
Must be computer literate
Competence in basic office procedures and the operation of common office equipment and machines
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Able to successfully complete and pass TEEX Driver Trainer course with one calendar year
Able to learn Tyler Technology routing software (VersaTrans)
Able to learn GPS software (GeoTab Inc.
Able to learn the use of Microsoft suite and software (Excel Word)
Able to learn the use of Google suite of programs (Google Meets Sheets Docs Forms)
Able to pass all necessary written and handson testing to drive all District vehicles (activity bus)
Able to use maps to designate routes and route stops for campus and parents
Train bus drivers on approved T.E.A. District routes.
Train bus drivers on guidelines and policies as per the Transportation Handbook.
Train drivers on discipline procedures.
Conduct safetytraining sessions.
Monitor routes.
Assist in gathering route description information.
Answer telephone and related calls or messages to appropriate personnel.
Provide information to public regarding transportation routes policies etc.
Maintain confidential file records as directed.
Assist in completing and submitting confidential SHARS and paperwork
Assist in completing and submitting monthly bus counts
Assist in completing and submitting annual bus driver/bus monitor behind the wheel
evaluations
Assist in the annual inspection and documentation of bus condition prior to the end of the
year
Maintain bus driver Green Book and daily logs as directed.
Utilize the use of twoway communication devices appropriately
Assist in payroll preparation as directed by monitoring TCP payroll logs.
Maintain accurate TCP clock in procedures for self and employees with respect to driving time
vs. trainer time
Adhere to daily eight hour work schedule and seeking prior comptime Administrative approval
when necessary
Review bus conduct reports.
Drive a school bus as needed.
Assist as bus monitor as directed.
Assistant Dispatching duties as needed
Maintain absentee reports.
Help maintain Driver Region One ESC Certification files.
Help maintain employee D.O.T. and Preemployment physical files.
Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
Assist with annual bus driver drug testing as well as weekly bus driver random drug
testing
Excels in providing excellent communication with all employees parents students and
Administration
Adheres to all Departmental local legal State and Federal rules and regulations
Able to work irregular hours including early mornings late evenings and weekends
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EQUIPMENT USED:
School bus safety equipment to include reflective signs first aid kits fire extinguishers and
etc. Twoway radio typewriter computer printer copier and calculator routing software GPS
software.
All District vehicles.
District vehicle onboard cameras
District cell phone.

Maintain emotional control under stress; occasional district travel; repetitive hand
motions
Able to maintain excellent customer service and communication towards all Transportation
stakeholders
Able to train staff on the proper use of all District approved disinfecting liquids chemicals
and devices
Able to train staff on the appropriate use of all District approved PPE as needed
Able to pass annual DOT physicals annual drug testing and weekly random drug testing as deemed
necessary
