POSITION SUMMARY:
The CRNA will administeranesthesia for all types of surgical cases in every setting in whichanesthesia is delivered in accordance with their expertise. CRNAs willadminister anesthesia in four general categories: 1 preanestheticpreperation and evaluation 2 anesthesia induction maintainance and emergence(3 postanesthesic care and 4 perianesthetic and clinical support functions.
POSITION DUTIES:
The CRNA will: administer anesthesia for all typesof surgical cases in every setting in which anesthesia is delivered inaccordance with their expertise state statutes or regulations andinstitutional policies: administer anesthesia and anesthesiarelated care infour general categories: 1 preanesthetic preparation and evaluation 2)anesthesia induction maintenance and emergence 3 postanesthesia care and(4 perianesthetic and clinical support functions which may include: general MAC regional or local anesthesia. Selectingobtaining and administering the anesthetic adjuvant and fluid necessaryto manage the anesthetic to maintain the patients physiologic homoestasis andto correct abnormal responses to the anesthesia or surgery. Selecting applyingand inserting appropriate noninvasive and invasive monitioring modalities forcollecting and interpreting patient physiological data. Managing a patientsairway and pulmonary status using endotracheal intubation mechnaical ventilationpharmacological support respiratory therapy or extubation. Releasing or discharging patients from apostanesthesia care area and providing postanesthesia followup evaluationand care related to anesthesia side effects or complications. Orderinginitiating or modifying pain relief therapy through the utilization of drugsregional anesthetic techniques or other accepted pain relief modalitiesincluding epidural analgesia. Responding to emergency situations by providingairway management administration of emergency fluids or or using basicor advanced cardiac life support techniques. Provide clinical support servicesoutside of the operating room including but not limited to radiologyendoscopy emergency department invasive labs.
Upon request or referral for these services the CRNA will provideconsultation and implementation of respiratory and ventilatory care identifyand manage emergency situations including the initiation or participation incardiopulmonary resuscitation that involves airway maintenance ventilationtracheal intubation pharmacologic cardiopulmonary support management ofblood fluid electrolyte and acidbase balance.
Additional nurse anesthesia responsibilities which are within theexpertise of the individual CRNA as authorized by Medical Staff and stated inthe policy and procedure manuals.
Nonclinical responsibilities asapplicable:
Clinical and didactic teaching supervision and evaluationof students; interdepartmental liaison member of departmental committees;research participant. Maintains a positive demeanor proactively helpful topatients physicians and staff; remains flexible and alters/accepts various tasksand assignments as they arise per the Directors requests or designee.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education:
Required:
Holds a current state license as a registered nurse in the state ofLouisiana and complies with any applicable state statutory and/or regulatoryrequirements concerning the advanced practice of nursing. Graduate from a nurseanesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation ofNurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA) or its predecessor.
License/Certification:
Required:
Possess certification by the Council on Certification orrecertification by the Council on Recertification or their respectivepredecessors; if pending initial certification evidence of graduation from anapproved nurse anesthesia educational program. Current BLS PALS and ACLScertifications as applicable.
Skills:
Demonstrates knowledge ofprinciples of anesthesia practices. Must be able to operate all anesthesiaequipment and to recognize equipment malfunction. Must be able to read written directions andto write legibly. Must be able tocommunicate effectively with students residents physicians patientsvisitors and hospital staff.
Physical Demands:
Heavyphysical requirements: exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantlyto move objects.
