Job Description
Position Title: Underwriter Junior
Reports To: Manager Underwriting
Department: Individual Underwriting
Term: Permanent FullTime
Work Arrangements: You will work from your home office 100 of the time. You may be required to be inperson at our office in Waterloo ON or another assigned location within the Waterloo Region on an as needed basis. Sales related roles may be required to travel based on the assignment.
The Opportunity:Equitable is growing! We are looking for a Junior Underwriter to join our Individual Underwriting team! This position is critical to Equitables success and is a great opportunity to work at one of Waterloo Regions Top Employers while developing skills for the future.
What you will be doing:
- Learning and applying critical thinking skills to the practice of underwriting including medical financial and nonmedical risk factors
- Willingness and ability to work both as an individual and as an integral member of a team while providing a superior quality client experience
- Comply with legislative requirements consumer regulation and reinsurance treaties as they apply to privacy disclosure and risk classification
- Contribute to continuous enhancement of underwriting risk practices and procedures
- Building internal and external relationships to provide a firstclass experience
What you will bring:
- Bilingual in French and English is an asset
- Bilingual in Mandarin or Cantonese would also be an asset
- Postsecondary education with a particular focus in a health or medical field of study is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of Individual Life and Health products is preferred ideally with some previous underwriting experience
- Comfortable in a dynamic work environment with the flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities
- Excellent analytical and problemsolving abilities
- Strong communication skills written and verbal
- Excellent relationship skills proactive and client focused is key!
- Commitment to continuous learning and participation in education enhancement to remain current with medical knowledge and industry underwriting trends
- Good knowledge of MS Office Suite
