| GENERAL OVERVIEW: The Muslim chaplain provides spiritual and emotional support to Muslim patients of all ages family members and hospital staff in accordance with the philosophy and goals of the department. The Muslim chaplain assists in the training of students and volunteers and shares in some administrative tasks within the department. This is a per diem position. |
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides religious support and pastoral care to Muslim patients family members and hospital staff by regular visits and by referral. Provides emergency response by beeper 24/7. Should there be periods when coverage is not available; the Muslim chaplain will take responsibility for letting the Chaplaincy Office know and for arranging alternate Muslim coverage when possible
- Shares in the planning and leadership of Muslim worship services like on Fridays or during the month of Ramadan
- Involved in special departmental interfaith services and memorial services/weddings in accordance with department policies
- Consults with other healthcare professionals in order to enhance patient care
- Charts visits in the patient record
- Provides education for staff on Muslim practices
- Is open to the possibility of interfaith on call
- Provides Muslim training for CPE students
- Functions as a member of the Chaplaincy team
- Attends and participates in staff activities as time allows
- Maintains contact with other local area Muslim monks and practitioners to better facilitate ministry to patients
- Maintains Chaplaincy visitation records
- Participates in quality improvement processes within the department
- Participates in continuing education opportunities to enhance pastoral care skills
- Works to increase the visibility of the Chaplaincy within the hospital and the wider community
- May serve on hospital committees
- Performs other duties as required assigned or negotiated
- Maintains contacts with local area clergy denominations and chaplains in order to facilitate ministry to patients.
