The Opportunity
Our USGO HeartlandDefiance Area is seeking a multiskilled team orientated Mechanical Technician who is proficient in troubleshooting maintaining and operating natural gas compressor station and related auxiliary equipment.
This individual must be a selfstarter capable of working with minimal supervision who possesses excellent problem solving communication and decisionmaking skills. This position is overtime eligible and extended work hours may be required on occasion without advance notice including nights weekends and holidays.
What youll do
- Perform maintenance overhaul and repair of compressor station equipment by performing such duties as: dismantling compressor station equipment cleaning parts inspecting vital parts for wear repairing and/or replacing worn engine parts fitting realigning and assembling equipment starting up checking and adjusting equipment for proper operation (setting ignition timing injection valve clearance etc.
- Compile or furnish information for miscellaneous reports and forms
- Work from blueprints and construction drawings
- Inspect for gas leaks and assist in maintaining safety equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance and overhaul of engines using micrometers dial indicators and miscellaneous hand tools
- Troubleshoot automatic control systems (electrical pneumatic and hydraulic) locating defective parts and correcting trouble
- Possess an indepth understanding of the entire facility in order to operate repair train and develop others
- Manage contractors and vendors while onsite
- Adhere to environmental policies by collecting samples
- Assist in the compilation of shipping manifests
- Assist in planning of work and participate as necessary in safety and/or team meetings and discussions
- Coordinate with gas control regarding the scheduling of maintenance to ensure operation of facility is at peak at all times
- Perform valve and operator maintenance
- Test overpressure protection devices and unit controls in accordance with recommended guidelines
- Order/reorder necessary parts and supplies
- Test and inspect lubricating systems
- Execute all planned preventative maintenance on prime movers or other equipment such as web deflections bump checks crank shaft alignments etc.
- Inspect maintain and fix station auxiliary equipment (air compressors air dryers generator boiler)
- Compile station operating budget and various annual operating reports
- Complete work orders enter data into job plans create new work orders etc. in SAP and complete the required forms
- Perform LOTO on equipment
- Complete Job Safety Analysis for tasks
- Line locating and excavation monitoring as necessary
- Will be required to carry a company provided cell phone and to work a rotating oncall schedule
- Other tasks as required
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated work experience in a related industry
- Thorough understanding of stop work authority (SWA) and safe work practices
- Knowledge and understanding of lock out/tag out (LOTO) procedures
- Experience in the use of Microsoft Outlook Word Excel and related software
- Working knowledge of operations and maintenance of gas engines compressors automatic control equipment and other auxiliary equipment operated by internal combustion engines
- Ability to understand piping operating drawings
- Relevant natural gas or energy industry experience
- Ability to work selfguided with minimal supervision
- Basic knowledge of instrumentation and electrical troubleshooting
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting largebore reciprocating engines
- Knowledge of internal combustion engines centrifugal gas compressors and standby generators
- Industrial experience in a plant environment
- Ability to interpret technical reference documents
- Ability to work selfguided with minimal supervision
- Medium voltage electrical experience involving switchgear frequency drives transformers and other medium voltage equipment associated with electrically driven compressor units
This position requires candidates to
- Have and maintain a valid drivers license and a safe driving record
- Successfully complete a preemployment medical screening including drug and alcohol testing
- Be subject to call out on a rotational schedule and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
- Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
- Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures and cramped conditions
