Key Responsibilities:
- Surface Preparation: Prepare surfaces for painting and finishing by sing sanding patching caulking glazing and applying fillers and primers.
- Application of Finishes: Apply finishes using brushes rollers spray and electrostatic spray equipment.
- Mixing & Matching: Mix and match paints and finishes to achieve the perfect look.
- Special Techniques: Perform sand and water blasting erect scaffolding and hang rigging as needed.
- Preventive Maintenance: Provide topnotch preventive maintenance to the San Diego State University community ensuring our facilities are always in excellent condition.

Position Information
- This is a fulltime 1.0 timebase) benefits eligible temporary position with an anticipated end date six months from date of hire with the possibility of reappointment.
- This position is designated nonexempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday Friday 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. but may vary based on operational needs.
- The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
SDSU Facilities services is a customer servicebased organization providing facility maintenance activities through a transparent and deliberate process. It is responsible for the operation maintenance repair renovation remodel and alteration activities in support of the academic and research mission of the university.

Education and Experience
Knowledge: Work requires thorough knowledge of the methods materials tools and equipment used in the painting trade including painting finishing drywall and paperhanging; and a thorough knowledge of the applicable state codes and regulations including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California.
Abilities: Must be able to apply paints and finishes neatly and accurately; mix paints and finishes and match colors; erect and work from scaffolds rigging and ladders; select the most appropriate materials; read interpret and work from blueprints plans drawings and specifications; make rough sketches; estimate cost time and materials of painting work; maintain records and retrieve data using manual and/or computerized recordkeeping systems; prepare standard reports; provide instruction to unskilled and semiskilled assistants; analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations; read and write at a level appropriate to the position; and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position. Incumbents may be required to possess a California Drivers License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment they are required to operate.
Experience: These abilities normally would be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journeylevel skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard painters apprenticeship program.
Key Qualifications
- Prior experience at a higher education environment or a large multibuilding facility environment.
- Minimum of four years experience painting in a commercial setting is preferred.
- Two years experience in drywall finishing is preferred.
- APPA EFP Credential is preferred.
Licenses/Certifications Required
Valid California Drivers License or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $6400 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education experience and qualifications the candidate brings to the position internal equity and the hiring departments fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $64260 $93612 per year (Step 1 Step 20; Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience. Step placement upon appointment is not expected to exceed Step 10 $76800 per year) for highly qualified candidates. Future increases including step advancement are subject to contract negotiations.
