Emerson Colleges Los Angeles Center (ELA) seeks parttime affiliated faculty to teach courses on open topics for Visual Media Arts Seminar Interdisciplinary Studies and Intermediate and Advanced Critical Studies and Theory Courses for the Spring 2025 Semester (Jan. 23 April 30. 2025.VM 402: Seminar in Media Arts Topics
Examines various topics in media arts in seminar format with emphasis on students oral and written presentation of material. Recent topics have included: The Other in US Film & TV Media Ethics & Cultural Diversity Los Angeles Film Noir and Japanese Cinema.
VM 400: Topics in Visual and Media Arts: Studies
Explores various aspects of visual and media arts history theory and criticism. Recent topics have included: Queer Identity in Media & Popular Culture Postmodernism Cinephilia and the Auteurs and Cyber Activism.
IN 374: Topics in Interdisciplinary Studies
Rotating topics explore interdisciplinary fields such as European studies womens and gender studies geography ecology and urban studies/civic engagement.
Three courses are available; one course per instructor. Specific topics are open and can be proposed by prospective instructors. Each course meets once a week for 3:45min. Course meeting times are TBD. Enrollment for each one is capped at 15 students.
The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty students and staff from diverse backgrounds. About Emerson College:
Emersons BFA degree in Comedic Arts is the first of its kind in the country. It integrates writing performance and production with new courses that examine comedy from a variety of perspectives. Immersive and handson in its approach this major draws its faculty and courses from Emersons departments of Visual and Media Arts Performing Arts Writing Literature & Publishing and the Institute for the Liberal Arts & Interdisciplinary Studies.
Emerson Los Angeles Center (ELA) is a residential semester away program for Emerson College juniors and seniors. Qualified Emerson students may enroll for one semester of study at ELA and take on a full semester of internship opportunities and coursework as well as personal and professional development workshops in the heart of Hollywood. Up to 210 students enroll in the fall and spring semesters. Students who participate in the ELA program gain valuable internship experience build connections with other students and key players in their chosen fields and create a footprint in the local community by participating in community service programs.
