Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

Recent MD/PhD or Postdoctoral degree in a biology/biochemistry/molecular biology required.

Strong experience in molecular and cell biology required.

Expertise in tumor biology desired.

Experience in computational analysis of large data sets is desired.

34 years of laboratory experience required.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills; detail oriented.

Excellent publication record highly desirable.

Ability to methodically record data with a very high level of accuracy.

Ability to work under both general supervision and independently.

Ability to perform a variety of routine tests.

Ability to prioritize work.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal laboratory environment.

May be exposed to radioactive and other hazardous materials under controlled conditions. Minimal risk when proper protocols are observed and followed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Will assist in the supervision of other laboratory personnel including visiting college and graduate students as well as laboratory aides.

GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Sandro Santagata in the Department of Pathology at Brigham and Womens Hospital Harvard Medical School. Our lab is focused on understanding how cancer cells develop aggressive behaviors and the mechanisms that permit resistance to even the most sophisticated therapeutic regimens.

We are primarily focused on understanding the genetic mutations epigenetic states and transcription factor networks that underlie these phenomena in primary brain tumors and in tumors that metastasize to the brain. The lab uses a range of techniques including chemical and genetic screening approaches. Abilities in computational analysis are a plus. Experience with HSP90 the proteasome and primary brain tumor cultures welcome.

We are seeking applications from highly selfmotivated individuals with excellent communication skills (written and spoken) the ability to write peerreviewed publications and proposals and an interest in working in a team environment on diverse projects. Applicants with a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. and a strong background in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry Chemical and Genetic Screening Pathology and/or Tumor Biology are encouraged to apply.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Performs standard technical procedures such as ChIP immunoprecipitation western blotting immunofluorescence cell culture.

2.Develops screening assays and executes highthroughput small molecule and genetic screens.

3.Performs recombinant DNA procedures such as plasmid subcloning and preparation isolation of DNA nucleic acid hybridization and polymerase chain reaction.

4.Prepares and maintains tissue and bacterial cultures including cultures of primary human tumor cell lines.

5.Operates instruments and equipment such the fluorescent microscope qPCR machine PCR machine.

6.Operates ancillary equipment such as photographic equipment and computer equipment.

7.Conducts literature reviews to assist in determining most suitable methods to be used in research.

8.Prepares and presents written or oral progress reports concerning studies including assembly organization and interpretation of data.

9.Performs statistical and computational analysis of data.

10.Prepares laboratory reagents chemicals instruments and equipment.

11.Orders chemicals reagents and other laboratory supplies.

12.Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs of laboratory apparatus and instruments.

13.Maintains a clean orderly work area within the laboratory.

14.Will assist in supervising the work of other assigned laboratory personnel including technicians and rotating students.

15.Will teach various laboratory techniques to laboratory personnel students and others.

16.Maintains established department policies procedures and objectives including the areas of quality assurance safety environmental and infection control.

17.Performs all other duties and responsibilities as directed.
