Job Description

A locally owned and nationally recognized Printing Signage and Marketing Services company in Charlottesville is looking for an experienced Prepress Graphic Artist / Customer Service Representative.

This is where our ClientFacing Team comes in!

You will be working on project acquisition and prepress activities associated with all aspect of our printing and marketing business. You will have the opportunity to lend your keen eye to improve quality.

Our Prepress Graphic Artist works closely with customers and our production and sales team providing support with the goal of increasing sales and customer satisfaction.

Responsibility Overview:

Assisting with project acquisition duties such as answering phone inquiries from new and existing customers replying to requests for quotes

Support the sales staff by completing estimates processing orders and processing credit cards & sending invoices.

Learn and fully utilize the computerized pricing/estimating program

Offer graphic design ideas solutions and alternatives based on customer input.

Handle questions and requests by customers.

Work with production department to assure projects are completed in a timely manner.

Schedule all work to meet customer time frame requirements. Monitor deadlines and report conflicts to management to establish priorities BEFORE the jobs are due.

Operate and maintain prepress computer printer and other equipment (PC and Mac) scanner and RIPs.

Become proficient in the current technology mainly In Design for creating graphics documents and digital files utilizing existing equipment and materials.

Followup with customers on all proofs.

Preflight digital files for potential problems.

Perform regular computer backup and archive customer files for safekeeping and for easy retrieval.

Output digital files per job specifications.

Skills we are looking for:

Two years education in graphic design 1year practical experience with 1 year of print production experience.

Working understanding of dual platform applications such as: In Design Acrobat Illustrator and PhotoShop.

Knowledge of PDF and postscript files and PDF plugins.

Skills desired but not required:

Provide necessary digital training to sales staff when appropriate.

Coordinate with copy and press operators to ensure that work meets their expectations/ requirements.

Reject poor quality or incorrect jobs and notify management.

Monitor graphics supplies and order as needed.

Experience with PrintSmith or PrintersPlan
