Job Description
Virginia Tech Bus Drivers transport faculty staff students and visitors on various charter trips in Virginia Tech passenger buses vans and other state vehicles. Trips occur throughout the week including days nights and weekends. Some trips involve transporting passengers then waiting for extended times for the passengers to complete their visit before returning to campus. Additional responsibilities include loading and unloading luggage maintaining trip logs assisting individuals with disabilities fueling and cleaning the vehicle and notifying the shop supervisor of any maintenance issues or concerns. All of this work is performed while providing excellent customer service to all guests.
The incumbents also perform other duties as requested; take initiative to support a healthy work environment; strive to fulfill the terms in the Standards of Business Conduct; exemplify the Virginia Tech Principles of Community; and support the universitys motto Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).
Required Qualifications
Licenses & Certifications
Must have a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B or higher with passenger and air brake endorsements.
Must possess and maintain a DOT medical certification.
Successful completion of preemployment criminal conviction driving records and drug test background checks as required for a CDL driver. Incumbents are also subject to random reasonable suspicion and postaccident drug and alcohol screening
Experience
Experience operating large motorized vehicles such as a passenger bus.
Experience transporting passengers.
Skills & Abilities
Must be able to sit stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to follow relevant safety regulations and state laws governing vehicle operation ensuring that passengers follow safety regulations.
Ability to safely operate a passenger bus and other vehicles.
Ability to safely and independently move and handle items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to operate automotive equipment and gas pumps.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience operating a charter/passenger bus and/or large passenger vans
Strong customer services experience.
Familiarity with Virginia Tech campus
