Job Description

Mounds Park Academy is a PreK12 independent school in Saint Paul MN that serves approximately 575 students from throughout the Twin Cities area. Since 1982 Mounds Park Academy has engaged students in a rigorous college preparatory experience that is demanding but not draining and goes far beyond memorization. Students are challenged to apply their understanding to stir the human spirit stand for justice and shake the world. This is what we call rigor with purpose and it grounds our students in the radical idea that their identity in the world is not measured by a test score but rather by the depth and decency of their impact on the world.

Mounds Park Academy seeks enthusiastic positive and highquality Substitute Teachers for our PreK program. Substitute teachers are responsible for providing a classroom instructional program that supports the continuity of learning when the classroom teacher is away/absent. At MPA substitute teachers are an important part of our community as they work to create consistently calm welcoming and engaging classrooms alongside our faculty and staff.

It is expected that a successful Substitute Teacher would:

  • Follow learning plans developed by the PreK teachers to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for children
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Adapt teaching methods and classroom management to fit the abilities and areas of growth for each individual child
  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom including in the hallways on the playground and in the cafeteria
  • Provide supportive learning engagements both inclass and regarding athome assignments based on the provided lesson plans
  • For longterm substitutes: develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the fulltime teachers previous lesson plans assess student progress communicate with parents and engage with the school community to the greatest extent possible
  • Fulfill all requirements and qualifications required by the State of Minnesota to be cleared to work in a PreK classroom including stringent background checks and professional development hours.

In addition the ideal candidate would possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Be available on an oncall or prescheduled basis
  • Be available Monday Friday for classroom teaching assignments
  • Follow through with scheduled assignments
  • Be flexible if/when asked to complete duties beyond the original assignment
  • Model professional experience attitude and demeanor appropriate for a school setting
  • Demonstrate an appreciation of diversity and be open to working in a community that values diversity and representation in all of its forms.
